Trump could be impeached again.
"High crimes and misdemeanors" isn't a legal definition / requirement for behaviour to fit a specific crime (and conversely guilt for a specific crime may not be grounds for impeachment).

Trump's deliberate and well-documented (Woodward tapes) "malicious" lies and instructions to "open up" despite prior but near simultaneously demonstrating he had knowledge about the seriousness of the pandemic while knowing that the consequences of doing so would result in unnecessary deaths of hundreds of thousands of US citizens. But he did it anyway.

and as pointless as the first impeachment, the Dems don't have the numbers.  Makes for great resistance theater though.

Trump is immune to the law. if Obama said 0.01% of the things Trump said in the last 6 months he'd be sued to bankruptcy and sitting in a jail with no key. Trump however, nobody even dares to challenge him let alone sue or successfully impeach. my prediction - 4 more years and no impeachment.

Yes of course he won't be convicted .  But it keeps it (Trump's failure to protect decision to harm US citizens) on the front page, and puts pressure on GOP senators who would refuse (again) to play by the rules centre-stage just before an election.  Plus impeachment take priority in senate (ie over appointing SC judges)

GOP have declared war, Democrats are scared to fight fire with fire - yet again.

Trump is immune to the law.

...because the "Republican" party wanted and got a "king" as head of state for the "republic".

(yet ironically, the subjects of monarchies get all antsy about allowing a "commoner" to join "their" royalty, inspecting intricate details of their past, lest a touch of the tarbrush or a rumoured wild romp in bed tarnish the purity of the institution).

it seems doubtful the Senate will get her confirmed before the election, but imagine if they lose, a lame duck outgoing Senate voting the new conservative female judge in during the transition

The constitution has the President selecting a nominee then the Senate advising and confirming the nomination with a vote
Nomination from Trump next week
There isn’t much time left in this session, until Nov 3. The outgoing Senate is still “in power” until Inauguration Day Jan 20

In case you hadn't noticed, America is at war. No-one cares about impartial anymore.

"Woman Suspected of Sending Ricin to Trump Is Arrested"

A Canadian national suspected of having mailed an envelope containing ricin to the White House was arrested on Sunday while trying to enter the United States from Canada, nearly a year after she had been deported from the United States for engaging in criminal activity, according to two American officials.

Customs and Border Protection agents detained the woman, who had a firearm, as she tried to cross the border into Buffalo, the officials said. Currently in the custody of border agents, she is set to be charged by the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington.

The Washington Post Newsletter - Trump joins dictators and demagogues in touting ‘patriotic education’

today

It was a vintage scene of Trumpist agitprop.

Last week, President Trump stood before original copies of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence and declared a new national campaign to promote “patriotic education.”

He tapped into a long-standing grievance within America’s right wing over supposed “left-wing indoctrination” in the country’s schools and universities, linking the unrest of this past summer to an education system that overly stresses the legacy of slavery, racism and sins of America’s past. ...

Weeks away from an election, Trump said his administration would launch a national panel to create a “pro-American curriculum,” which he dubbed the “1776 Commission.”

That appears to be a White House response to the “1619 Project,” a Pulitzer Prize-winning set of essays published by the New York Times last year that sought to reframe the story of American democracy as centered on the legacy and experience of slavery. ...

President Trump speaks to the White House Conference on American History at the National Archives Museum on Thursday.

EDIT  This article compares Trump's "patriotic" campaign with the propaganda of President Erdogan of Turkey, President Bolsonaro of Brazil, and Prime Minister Orban of Hungary.

New York Times: To Conservatives, Barrett Has ‘Perfect Combination’ of Attributes for Supreme Court

Judge Amy Coney Barrett is regarded as the leading contender to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

...If Judge Barrett were nominated and confirmed, she would be the sitting justice with the least courtroom experience, but one viewed as a home run by conservative Christians and anti-abortion activists.

“She is the perfect combination of brilliant jurist and a woman who brings the argument to the court that is potentially the contrary to the views of the sitting women justices,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the Susan B. Anthony List, an anti-abortion political group, who has praised Mr. Trump’s entire shortlist.

The nomination of a judge whom Mr. Trump was quoted last year as “saving” to be Justice Ginsburg’s replacement would almost surely plunge the nation into a bitter and divisive debate over the future of abortion rights, made even more pointed because Judge Barrett would replace a justice who was an unequivocal supporter of those rights. That is a debate Mr. Trump has not shied away from as president, as his judicial appointments and efforts to court conservatives have repeatedly shown.

Liberal groups have been sounding alarm over Judge Barrett for two years because of concerns over how she might rule on abortion and the Affordable Care Act, [also known as Obamacare].

“Amy Coney Barrett meets Donald Trump’s two main litmus tests: She has made clear she would invalidate [Obamacare]. and take health care away from millions of people and undermine a woman’s reproductive freedom,” said Nan Aron, the president of Alliance for Justice, a liberal group.
