When you hear the leader of one of the smaller parties say in an interview 'We won't agree to an election date. We want to see Johnson squirm' you know that something has gone seriously wrong with MP's attitudes and priorities and that's on all sides.

There's nothing wrong with an opposition party leader saying that - under the circumstances it's fine, and if someone wants to condemn them for it then also argue that Boris is working to uphold democratic principles, they need their heads read. You may detest it, but it's not anti-democratic.

That's how representative democracy works - opposition opposes. Sometimes they win - also how representative democracy is supposed to work.

In case you're wondering "what is a chlorinated chicken?"

US vice president Mike Pence was begging Boris to allow chicken meat, that had been dipped in a chlorine solution, to be allowed into the UK (or the EU in general).

Boris already had a chlorinated chicken.

Not exactly the wittiest insult, since chlorinated chicken primarily means US chicken.

BBC News - Brexit: Scottish judges rule Parliament suspension is unlawful

BREAKING

Boris Johnson’s suspension of the UK Parliament is unlawful, Scotland’s highest civil court has ruled.

A panel of three judges at the Court of Session found in favour of a cross-party group of politicians who were challenging the prime minister's move.

The judges said the PM was attempting to prevent Parliament holding the government to account ahead of Brexit.

A UK government appeal against the ruling will be heard by the Supreme Court in London next week. ...

Opposition parties have called for Parliament to be immediately recalled in the wake of the court judgement, but Downing Street said this would not happen ahead of the Supreme Court's ruling on the case. ...

In a summary of their findings, the judges, at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, said they were unanimous in their belief that Mr Johnson was motivated in his decision to prorogue by the "improper purpose of stymieing Parliament".

They added: "The court will accordingly make an order declaring that the prime minister's advice to HM the Queen and the prorogation which followed thereon was unlawful and is thus null and of no effect."

I understand that polls in some EU countries are showing increasing support for turfing the UK out of the EU.
I'm starting to think that perhaps they're right - while Brexit will cause some economic harm to the EU, perhaps it's a better option than having a nation with a succession of minority governments, with a vocal minority of hard right and xenophobes indefinitely influencing policy in the union.
It seems highly unlikely that a general election in the UK will result in a majority government or a stable coalition. FPP will result in opposing minor parties (Brexit and Lib Dems) being under-represented, the strength of the SNP, and NI polls showing a (small) majority supporting unification of Ireland, the EU should deny any possibility of extension or renegotiation, sit back and see what happens.

BASE SCENARIO

When the UK ceases to be a member of the European Union in October 2019, all rights and reciprocal arrangements with the EU end.

● The UK reverts fully to “third country” status. The relationship between the UK and the European Union as a whole is unsympathetic, with many member states (under pressure from the European Commission) unwilling to engage bilaterally and implementing protections unilaterally, though some member states may be more understanding.

● No bilateral deals have been concluded with individual member states, with the exception of the reciprocal agreement on social security co-ordination with the Republic of Ireland. EU citizens living in the UK can retain broadly all rights and status that they were entitled before the UK’s exit from the EU, at the point of exit.

● Public and business readiness for no-deal will remain at a low level, and will decrease to lower levels, because the absence of a clear decision on the form of EU Exit (customs union, no deal etc) does not provide a concrete situation for third parties to prepare for. Readiness will be further limited by increasing EU Exit fatigue caused by the second extension of article 50.

● Business readiness will not be uniform – in general large businesses that work across sectors are likely to have better developed counting plans than small and medium-size businesses. Business readiness will be compounded by seasonal effects and factors such as warehouse availability.

● Private sector companies’ behaviour will be governed by commercial considerations, unless they are influenced otherwise.

● Her Majesty’s government will act in accordance with the rule of law, including by identifying the powers it is using to take specific actions.

● Risks associated with autumn and winter, such as severe weather, flooding and seasonal flu, could exacerbate any effects and stretch the resources of partners and responders.

Reality is they will be expected to use the Euro...

BBC News - Brexit: Labour urges Parliament recall after no-deal Brexit papers released

The Yellowhammer file, which is redacted in parts and almost identical to a version leaked to the Sunday Times last month, says a no-deal Brexit could lead to:

a "decrease" in certain types of fresh food and "shorter supply" of key ingredients
price rises for food and fuel, which would "disproportionately" affect those with low incomes
"disruption lasting up to six months" potentially affecting medicines and medical supplies
protests and counter-protests across the UK
lorries waiting for more than two days to cross the English Channel
The document also says some businesses could cease trading, the black market could grow, and some adult social care providers might fail.
