That is not the reason I don't give it credence at all. It is not a scientific poll by any stretch.

Also look back through this thread I did not vote Labour or any of the coalition partners. I voted National and still support National

Late to the party. To round this off, the issue is not who enjoys what. It is that rugby has an excessive and unjustified place in this society. If it was held in the same regard as music, squash, sport in general and movies and tv, it would just be another game, which is what it should be. As an aside, it would also be a lot cheaper to watch.

The level of attention we give rugby, as a game, is ok. It's position in society, as a group of male role-models is not ok.

Don't think so. I was responding to earlier posts. Coincidentally, I am just reading a Saturday column about the destructive pressure to win that is increasingly being placed on young people who participate in competitive sport. Not only rugby, though that is presumably a major one.

How about some good losers as role models? That certainly wouldn't hurt, though someone might have to tell the Silver Ferns.

Yeah basically what Rikkitic said. Also they're a handful out of hundreds. And then one of them says something stupid and suddenly the whole world turns their back on them... As much as I know about them in my opinion they're good people, but they're only human and they're only rugby players.

Your irrational hatred of Rugby is clouding your judgment. These sportsmen and women inspire our current generation to push beyond their barriers, on and off the field to reach greatness. I don't think Rugby is over-represented in NZ. It's something lots of people love. That's the perfect reason for something to be represented at all. Rugby is interesting and enjoyable for people to watch, and the results are tangible. Science and the Arts, whilst important, are often less visible due to the nature of it. The process isn't particularly interesting, to most, just the result.

Do you disavow Sir Edmund Hillary? His crowning achievement was climbing a mountain. His lesser known feats were philanthropy.

The consistency of those players performances week after week, month after month, year after year, it's no less impressive than anything else.

Lots of role models in NZ don't chase a ball, doesn't make them anymore or less spectacular. Probably makes them less interesting to the average Joe. If you are rallying against that, well Good luck.
