Your irrational hatred of Rugby is clouding your judgment.

Again, making things up. Where did I ever say I hate rugby? C'mon, show me the quote.

I really wish you would quit doing that. It is annoying.

It's an impression you give over many many posts. Anything Sky related there is the obligatory whine about Rugby. No I can't be bothered finding a post specifically, but I am confident I could at a pinch.

No you couldn't, because I never said that, irrational or otherwise. Just because you have an impression doesn't mean I said something.

What I have said, and is true, is that I am not a fan of rugby but I do not have a hatred of it and have never suggested such a thing. That would be silly, which is why I take offense when you cast accusations like this around. I think rugby is overvalued in this country, but I also think it has a place, just like other sports. So quit inventing things you merely think I have said or believe.

People tend to make career decisions based on a perception of what they are good at, and also based on the perception of the options available to them. The educational experience is a key component in forming those perceptions. The occupations of family and friends can also be a big factor.

There's a lot of syncronicity in Ritchie McCaw flying a helicopter into schools to market milk. Rugby is the national game. You could make similar points about any country with a strong national sport. Soccer in UK, cricket in India, the list goes on.

It is our National sport....probably the only Country where this is so. Do you also feel Baseball is overvalued in the US or GridIron? The sport is only popular here due to the numbers that both play and follow it. Quite simple really. Its all very voluntary where only the top echelon get paid.

It is an interesting question. Actually I do think they are probably overvalued, as is football in Europe and elsewhere. But I also know that all such sports do provide real value in a number of different ways. I don't have a problem with sports as such, I just think the balance is a little off in most places.

Sometimes I wonder if some contributors come here just to have an argument :-)  (about anything at all)

...but to try and bring this thread back on topic again:

Yet another broken promise from floundering Govt

I'm thinking that June can't get here soon enough for our PM.

I assume you would want the Government to legislate to provide balance?

How would you like it packaged and presented then Mike?

Labour campaigned unequivocally on reducing those fees from Jul 1 onwards.

Now Labour's Health Minister has confirmed himself that they will be breaking that Election promise.

Just because I chose to use a National Party Press Release to raise the topic, doesn't change those facts.  Nor does it make it any less newsworthy.

Agreed, I posted it earlier. Got lost in the discussion about the importance of Rugby.

@pumpedd will surely have something to say.

I am really mad this keeps happening. Labour should be in the toilet as far as the polls go. It's the worst list of broken promises from an incoming Government I've ever seen since I became politically aware.

I am wondering when the NZ Public will wake up and hold these liars to account.

I see Hill Cone has made an apology for her "attack" on poor Clarke. Good Grief.

Max Key was subjected to the most puerile and insulting and disgusting comments by the press (and it continues to this day) and all in Sundry even as a youngish child, yet Poor Clarke can't take a bit of a hit before the whole world crashes down. He even (unsurprisingly) lacked the class to ignore it, and attacked back. It feels wrong that someone like him has a column in the national newspaper. Surely it's a conflict of interest. Even the appearance of it, they should be smart enough to have stopped it.

Neither set of comments was necessary even if it reflects a view which may or may not be popular among many.

That is verging on a troll question. And you were doing so well.

Another *massive* broken promise (though for reasons I clearly outlined before, I am against it in it's current form as it's a massive dump all over already overworked GP Practices).

This Government doesn't have a *clue*!

David Clark claims this extended time-frame was the result of coalition compromise - maybe Labour should have put out a disclaimer before the election that they'll deliver on their promises proportional to their result i.e. with a 37% result they only have to deliver at 37% of stated intentions.

 - Kiwibuild would be 37000 homes

 - Only 370 million trees...

I made no assertion as to the right or the wrong of the referred blog, I merely made the observation that is a party political opinion.

Now as to the matter of the Doctors fees. It does look like these will be delayed supposedly due to fiscal pressure which is sad and a concern given that it was an election manifesto item. Is a delay a broken promise? I guess that is up to interpretation.

I would like to see the reduction but if it is not genuinely affordable then we have to accept that, however I find it hard to equate that to the announced spending boost for Auckland roading, again I am making no assertions regarding the right or wrong of that decision.

The timing (i.e. 1 July 2018) stated in the promise is of equal importance to the substance (i.e. the $$). To change either part is to break the promise. Had they pledged "lower GP fees this term" then they would have had the liberty  of implementing this over the next three years, but you would have to acknowledge that a there is a distinct difference between that and their election promise.

Most people would have heard of the acronym of a SMART goal: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant & Time-Bound. The time factor becomes a fundamental part of the goal promise, as much as a specificity of the detail.

You could argue the relevance/importance/impact in the greater scheme of things, but I would say it is indisputably a BROKEN promise, no question about that.

I was actually thinking the same thing - there's not exactly a lack of money, they just need to be upfront that their priorities at the moment are Auckland roads, not cheaper GP visits (is it a coincidence that there's a by-election coming up in Auckland?)
