Santa bought me Oath of Honor - simultaneously fascinating, frightening and disgusting.

Breaking news: Trump disqualified in Maine!

Sensational - although I note that's only 2 states out of 50 😕

Also - can't wait to see Liz's book, should be an interesting read.

I suspect the Supreme Court will show their true colours, and overthrow all State's insurrection rulings.

Again the conservatives justices pull out the "it's states' rights" and "that's what the forefathers who framed the constitution wanted 250 years ago" arguments to shield themselves from criticism, unless it's inconvenient.

Trump keeps getting pinged with inciting an insurrection
  • continuously spreading false claims about voter fraud in the 2020 election
  • urging his supporters to march on the Capitol
  • to stop lawmakers from certifying the vote
Presenting the fake electors was so bizarre and perverse (and frankly dumb), it's hard to know what laws where broken. Definitely at least the "Electoral Count Act", but some states are categorizing it as insurrection.

It won't add any more Trump supporters, and it will add doubt to at least a few.

Like I said before, I hope he never, ever shuts up about 2020 and it puts off enough voters that it means he loses - as all that election fraud crap turns a lot of Independents off 👍

Someone really needs to call his bluff. If he was in fact elected in 2020, then he isn't eligible to run again. To run in 2024, he has to admit he lost 2020.

Fox New spin:

Fox Presenter: "a lot of people saying, even the Secretary of State saying 'you know what? Trump is guilty of insurrection.'
But he's not. and that's a key part of this whole thing. "

Juan says that you don't need to be a convicted insurrection for the 14th amendment applies, but the Fox news presenter misrepresents the "convicted" portion.

Fox Presenter: "Juan makes a fair point there is that it feels a little like the former president's due process is being taken away."

I think it's intentional misrepresentation, as again there's nothing in the 14th amendment that says "convicted" or mentions due process.

The reason is after the civil war it was logistically impossible to convict everyone in the South East. That still stands.

Any state has the right to determine who is an insurrectionist. Typical conservatives who are OK with state rights, only it suits them, otherwise it is unfair.

By the way, the Politico speaker did a poor job. Maybe she's the only one who'll do Fox News.

And then it went off-rails with its discussion about slavery.

I loathe Trump but the situation with a Maine official banning him from the ballot sets a very dangerous precedent.

That's what his sycophants are screeching. It is a fake complaint. If the rules are already clearly in place, then candidates have to either meet them or not. The Maine official is doing her job as it is defined. She is not making anything up on the fly. The rules already existed. Maine has every right to say what qualifies and what disqualifies. Republicans especially should appreciate that.

He needs to run and be beaten, preferably convincingly. It would be the death knell of Trumpism.

Any other outcome ie he's banned or a close result, and Trumpism will flourish.

If he runs he may well be beaten, but it won't be convincingly. Many voters who don't necessarily like him will vote for him because they believe his BS and because they are sick of non-functional government and want someone in charge who they perceive as forceful and decisive. If you don't believe this, you just have to ask them.

Any defeat at the polls, even an unlikely 'convincing' one, would not convince his fanatics. It would just strengthen their conspiracy nut belief that another election had been 'stolen'. These are not people who think straight or can be persuaded by facts or arguments. A Trump defeat by any means invites violence. The best hope is that the system holds and the crazies eventually give up and go home. But it won't be pretty.

If Trump gets to run I believe he will win.

Biden is looking weaker by the day. The southern border is overrun, 10,000 one day last week, and his diplomacy efforts in the Middle East are ignored. I just don't see any way back for him.

It's got to the point that if either side had a half decent candidate they would win easily.
