The problem is deplorables see him as one of their own. That is ridiculous of course, but it is what it is. The American system creates lots of losers. These are people without a voice. Now they think they have a voice in Trump. Nothing he does, no crime he commits, no jail time he serves, will put them off. They see these kinds of things as proof that he is being persecuted for serving the cause.

Jack Smith's motions has already been used by prosecutors in many of the hundreds of trials of Trump's followers.

They are now sitting in jail as will be their leader Trump,

Federal prosecutors have asked a judge to prohibit Donald Trump’s attorneys from introducing at his D.C. federal election obstruction trial “irrelevant disinformation” that is often part of Trump’s campaign stump speeches, including that President Biden coordinated with the Justice Department to bring criminal charges against him.

Special counsel Jack Smith filed on Wednesday what is known as a motion in limine, urging U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan to prohibit Trump from including certain arguments in his defense. Such filings are common in legal proceedings and aim to eliminate arguments at trial that prosecutors say are not supported by evidence or are irrelevant to the case, and could mislead jurors.

Among the potential defenses that Smith wants Chutkan, who is overseeing the case, to ban at trial: that law enforcement’s failure to properly prepare is to blame for the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump has previously made this claim.

“Although the Court can recognize these efforts for what they are and disregard them, the jury — if subjected to them — may not,” the filing reads. “The Court should not permit the defendant to turn the courtroom into a forum in which he propagates irrelevant disinformation, and should reject his attempt to inject politics into this proceeding.”

Prosecutors have filed similar motions in many of the hundreds of trials of people charged with storming the Capitol on Jan. 6. In those cases, prosecutors have typically sought to prohibit defense attorneys from arguing that their clients were exercising their First Amendment rights when they broke into the Capitol or that the police — acting as part of some sort of conspiracy — allowed the riot to happen.

For that one I would also argue precedent. Hell, even in 2000 there were several questions about the election result, but you didn't see a mob of Al Gore's supporters storming the Capitol when he counted the votes like Mike Pence did. This process had been carried out successfully for a long, long time (until the lying orange buffoon started opening his whiny mouth and playing the "election fraud" card) with no issues at all - certainly with no riots - so I can see why the police may not have expected to happen what happened.

 

What Trump's trying is deflection at its best. He knew he lost, but didn't want to appear like a loser, so he summoned his group of thugs to do what they did. Even then, they still failed - but somehow it becomes "oh this is all the Police's fault, I had nothing to do with it, blah blah blah" 🙄

Trump has been the best thing for lawyers since the Magna Carta.

In ten years times, lawyers will be moaning: "remember when millions in billable time were flooding in, because of Trump? He paid for my backyard underground bunker. Good times, good times."

You're assuming he even pays his lawyers in the first place? I thought it would be more like "damn, that guy never paid us a red cent, but kept stringing us along for ages. Now we have to close down or keep trying to get anything out of the jerk!" 😀 Some naive law firms might think landing Trump as a client would result in a huge payday, but history has proved otherwise.

 

Also - Politico's list of the most wrong predictions of 2023. Perennial favourite, once-popular Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams appears on this list for the umpteenth time (for once not espousing his undying love for Trump) but for something different. I guess the third-parties used by prosecutors are getting rich, investigators, analysts, advocates, information technology specialists, researchers, support staff,

Also lawyers getting rich are used by the subset of January 6th traitors who are sane. They are still somewhat connected to reality to have a lawyer represent them in court, rather than representing themselves.
