Colorado Public Radio: Tyler Boebert’s arrest is the latest in a string of run-ins between the Boeberts and law enforcement. The 18-year-old, one of four sons, was allegedly the victim of domestic abuse during the family’s most recent incident, when his father, Jayson Boebert, was arrested in January on multiple charges, including third-degree assault, harassment and prohibited use of a firearm.

A pretty weak attempt at deflection.
He has now also planned a “mass gathering” at Parliament for next Tuesday, “for the crowd to put their challenge directly to [Prime Minister] Christopher Luxon”, he said.
He said this protest was a response to his claim the Prime Minister was “destroying free speech” by “obstructing a referendum on Treaty of Waitangi issues” and “inviting the monster [Ardern] back in, at the taxpayer’s expense”.
This was a reference to the Prime Minister having ruled out his party’s support for Act’s Treaty Principles Bill beyond the select committee processes last month. The bill, if passed, would have led to a referendum held on Act’s interpretation of the Treaty Principles.
Tamaki said Luxon had “shut down the democratic process” by doing this.
He said: “PM Christopher Luxon is betraying the voters. He is destroying free speech. He is destroying democracy. We must take action”.
Tamaki said Luxon “shows signs of continuing with a ... liberal, socialist, globalist agenda”, echoing his opinions about Jacnida Arden’s premiership.

He's not against Labour or National. He's against government.

Brandon Fellows smoking marijuana in an office at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021
The Washington Post - Defiant Jan. 6 rioter spars with judge at sentencing hearing
29 Feb 2024
A tree cutter who smoked marijuana in a senator’s office during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol was sentenced to 3½ years in prison Thursday after his strategy of interrupting and challenging the sentencing judge seemed to blow up in his face. ...
A jury in U.S. District Court in D.C. last year convicted Brandon Fellows, 29, of obstructing an official proceeding, entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct ...
Fellows chose to represent himself through most of his legal proceedings and was found in contempt at his trial after calling U.S. District Judge Trevor N. McFadden a “modern-day Nazi” running a “kangaroo court.” ...
At his sentencing, he gave a 45-minute PowerPoint presentation railing against “crazy people who say a man can get pregnant,” accusing prosecutors of telling lies and bemoaning the “minimum of 23,736 hours” he had spent in jail “being treated like a terrorist without any constitutional rights.” ...
“There is no grand conspiracy here against you,” the judge said ... “It’s time for you to grow up!” [He then sentenced Fellows to 3½ years in prison.]

Didn't even know that Tamaki was protesting until I read the story in the Herald. I guess he doesn't have as much clout as he used to? Mind you, running a huge election campaign and getting all of 9,000 votes will make a man desperate.
It ticks me off how Tamaki always says he speaks for "every New Zealander" (or words to that effect) - he certainly doesn't speak for me.

RawStory - Opinion - The most corrupt Supreme Court in the world and the Trump coup
March 2, 2024
At least four members of the most corrupt Supreme Court in American history have decided to help Trump delay his trial for trying to overthrow the government of the United States. ...
In a hail-Mary attempt to push his trials beyond the election, hoping he’d win with Putin’s help and could then pardon himself and gut the DOJ, Trump’s attorneys filed a claim that his efforts to overturn the 2020 election were “official acts” and that all presidents have “absolute immunity” while in office and for the rest of their lives thereafter.
Nobody took it seriously. Even the appeals court his bid first went to pointed out how absurd it was. ... But absurd is nothing new to the six bought-off Republicans on the Supreme Court. ...
The Republicans on the Court want more Republicans on the Court. And they don’t want Joe Biden expanding the Court, which they know he’s considering for a second term.
So they introduced what will be at least a 130-day delay in Trump’s trial. They won’t even hear arguments until April 22. Democracy be damned. ...
Delay, delay, delay 😡

The NY Times - Key Figure in Trump’s Business Pleads Guilty to Felony Perjury
04 March 2024
Allen H. Weisselberg, former President Donald J. Trump’s longtime financial gatekeeper, pleaded guilty to felony perjury charges in a Manhattan courtroom on Monday, the latest twist in a tortured legal odyssey.
Yet Mr. Weisselberg, who for years has remained steadfastly loyal to Mr. Trump in the face of intense prosecutorial pressure, did not implicate his former boss.
That unbroken streak of loyalty has frustrated prosecutors and now, at the age of 76, will cost Mr. Weisselberg his freedom a second time.

Daily Beast - Perjury Plea Opens Up Trump Lawyers to Big Problems
06 March 2024 (extracts from a long article)
Now that former Trump Organization accountant Allen Weisselberg has pleaded guilty to perjury, the lawyers who defended Donald Trump at his bank fraud trial have found themselves in a precarious position: open to accusations that they violated professional ethics for remaining silent while their witness lied in court.
Attorneys put their bar licenses at risk if they sit idly by while they know that their witnesses present false testimony under oath.
As such, Weisselberg’s recent confession presents a unique and personal threat to Trump’s hired legal guns, who have already gained an unseemly reputation over their willingness to defend their client’s hate-fueled attacks on public officials, attack judges on his behalf, and play delay games by pitting court calendars against each other. ...
The fallout from Weisselberg’s plea deal on Monday could be severe for Trump attorneys Alina Habba, Clifford S. Robert, and their colleagues. ...
Even if Trump’s lawyers could successfully defend themselves from professional repercussions, just having to put up a defense could be a big problem for Trump and his attorneys.
The former president’s legal calendar is already full of court dates and deadlines, and Trump’s lawyers - many of whom are working on multiple cases for him - wouldn’t have much time to deal with these complaints without it affecting their own schedules and ability to defend themselves.
