There are some monsters in this government.

Paying for tax cuts by not funding insulin pumps and glucose monitors for disabled kids (substack.com)

"TL;DR: Carers and parents of disabled children fear a funding freeze announced this week to help pay for tax cuts will leave those at home with diabetes more vulnerable to ‘Dead in Bed’ syndrome because of the de-funding of new insulin pumps and glucose monitors."

Man, the comments on that post. Mention investment property owner "tax cuts" (in the context of reinstating interest deductibility for investment property mortgages, which objectively is a tax cut as "tax bill go down" - just as you could argue that removing interest deductibility was a tax increase by the same metric) and investment property owners get really bent out of shape slamming the whole thing as "unfair!"

What a joke. In my opinion, it shows the incompetence and the bad thinking behind decisions that affect people who need support most.

Cabinet puts disabilities ministry on watch after families blindsided | Stuff

Cabinet has moved to take greater control over Whaikaha, the Ministry for Disabled People, after it blindsided families with sudden cuts to respite care and other services.

Disabilities Minister Penny Simmonds, a member of the National Party, last week admitted she signed off Whaikaha’s briefing that it would urgently implement restrictions to funding for families with disabilities, without any consultation.

“We’ve also directed, as a Cabinet, that any further decisions that the ministry makes about changing its criteria, its funding, needs to be properly consulted, properly sequences. It needs to go to Cabinet before it’s enacted,” Willis said.

It gets worse. The reversal of the cut is available to families in the form of a claim. The opposition that claimed it was going to cut down on red tape and find efficiencies when in government,  is making families claim for up to $75 at a time and needs to find staff to process the claims and set up systems to handle this about face.

You couldn't make up how incompetent this National government is.

Second instance of a minister claiming they were blindsided by something they actually knew about.

Not off to a flyer.

Even Seymour thought this was a bad call.

You know it's bad when that happens and he agrees.

And I love the international spirit of hypocrisy we've got going here, as if the Five Eyes - us included - don't have our own teams of people trying to break into Chinese government networks. Who do they think they're fooling?

After Luxon complained about his electorate office being "vandalised" repeatedly I am fully expecting him to come out against Tamaki and his "we will not rule it out" when it comes to vandalism by the destiny church costing tax payers and rate payers money....

The I read what I wrote and laughed.

But the rich (and those that don't really need it) will still get their beloved tax cuts, right?

And yet compared to the world, people in NZ are in the top 10% for wealth...

However meanwhile we let multinational corporations out of their tax obligations

Obviously that's different - after all, we're the good guys.

Multinational corporations are scrupulous about meeting their tax obligations. It’s funny when it’s property investors it’s envy but multinationals are fair game.
