From the "Only in America" file ...

The NY Times - F.B.I. Searches Home of L.A. Deputy Mayor Suspected of Bomb Threat Against City Hall

18 Dec 2024

F.B.I. agents searched the home of a Los Angeles deputy mayor this week as part of an investigation into a bomb threat that officials believe he made against City Hall earlier this year.

Agents searched the home of the deputy mayor, Brian Williams, on Tuesday. Mr. Williams, who was appointed by Mayor Karen Bass last year to oversee public safety, was immediately placed on administrative leave ...

The police said that an early investigation found that the source of the bomb threat was “likely” Mr. Williams.

They referred the investigation to the F.B.I. because of the department’s working relationship with Mr. Williams, the police said.

Also in California, the story reminds me of the famous case of a fire chief secretly being an arsonist is John Leonard Orr, a former fire captain and arson investigator in California. Orr was convicted of multiple counts of arson and murder.

One of his fires, the 1984 Ole's Home Center fire in South Pasadena, California, killed four people, including a 2-year-old child

No one is too far right for Elon Musk.
Maybe he thinks if Nazi's built a base on the dark side of the Moon, he needs them to get to Mars.

If you can buy one election, maybe...

Outrage as Elon Musk claims ‘only AfD can save Germany’
German health minister calls US billionaire’s intervention weeks before election ‘undignified and problematic’
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/dec/20/elon-musk-claims-only-afd-can-save-germany

""
In May, the AfD was expelled from a pan-European parliamentary group of populist far-right parties after a string of controversies, including a comment by the senior AfD figure that the Nazi SS were “not all criminals”.
""

Of course the thought that everyone having far right, extreme nationalist, perhaps bordering on dictatorial testosterone Governments.
The tendencies of these being to look for other lands to expand into and exploit. Trade wars become territorial wars etc.
That brings them into conflict with each other as they are extreme nationalist.

Well that this represents a real and present threat of early extinction that a longtermist might need to be worried about.

Then if all you truly care about is gathering as much glory, power and riches in your lifetime.

Oh dear, now I can see why he fought to hard to keep it hidden - even going as far as filing a lawsuit (incorrectly) to stop it from happening.

From the article: "In the lawsuit, which was filed in Washington, DC, against the Republican-led committee and its chairman, Gaetz claimed releasing the report would cause 'immediate, severe and irreversible' damage to his reputation, in part because 'media coverage would be immediate and widespread.'

You know when I set fire to all those monasteries and got caught, I said the exact same thing: "reporting would cause immediate, severe and irreversible damage to my reputation, in part because media coverage would be immediate and widespread."

what a coincidenk?

Read all about it ...

The NY Times - Takeaways From the House Ethics Committee’s Investigation on Matt Gaetz   (free unlocked link)

23 Dec 2024

Headings only:

  • The report says the evidence shows Mr. Gaetz engaged in a range of questionable conduct, some of it illegal.

  • It is not clear that Gaetz will face further prosecution.

  • The panel did not find sufficient evidence to accuse Gaetz of sex trafficking.

  • Some of the women Mr. Gaetz had sex with for money felt impaired by drug or alcohol use.

  • The committee believed the Justice Department was unhelpful in its investigation.

The NY Times - Giuliani Is Held in Contempt of Court in Defamation Case

breaking!

A federal judge on Monday held Rudolph W. Giuliani in contempt of court for failing to cooperate in the handover of $11 million of his personal assets to Georgia poll workers he falsely accused of helping to steal the 2020 presidential election.

Mr. Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, has so far failed to turn over the bulk of his personal assets as a down payment on the $148 million judgment the poll workers, Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Shaye Moss, won in a defamation lawsuit.

The judge, Lewis J. Liman of U.S. District Court in Manhattan, has yet to detail what specific sanctions Mr. Giuliani faces.

But being held in contempt could possibly hinder the former mayor’s attempts to hang onto his Palm Beach, Fla., condo.

Mr. Giuliani’s assets include a 10-room apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan; a 1980 Mercedes-Benz convertible; a collection of 26 designer watches; and rare Yankees collectibles, the most valuable of which might be a signed and framed Joe DiMaggio jersey.

Unfortunately, "held" does not mean "jailed".  😒

Sensational news still though. And I note his orange Jesus is nowhere to be found in Rudy's hour of need.

Also - another MAGA deplorable who said orange buffoon wants to run the FBI, believes there was a government hand in January 6...from the FBI 🙄

This January 6 MAGA deplorable crowd is living in his own little fantasy world (yet another one of these thugs who tries to paint themself as a "victim"). Having said that it's interesting to see all the various January 6 factions fighting each other to get their piece of the pie. And $50 billion?!? Please. I hope he doesn't get a cent.

Previous 6 January protestors want a blanket pardon and don't want to be held accountable for actions that would get anyone thrown in prison if performed anywhere anytime else: a murderous rampage leading to trespass, assaulting police officers, destruction of property.

Seems like accountability only go one direction.

Trump: “The answer is yes, Congress, the Senate, anything are going to be held accountable. They’ve got to be held accountable [for] what they’re doing. They’re destroying this country. They’re crooked people, they’re dishonest people. They’re going to be held accountable.”

Trump again: "I'm a very honest person. Frankly, I have to be, because if I weren’t, you wouldn’t have voted for me."

Trump again: "I am your president of law and order,"

The NY Times - Judge Cannon Blocks Release of Special Counsel’s Final Report on Trump Documents Investigation

07 Jan 2024

The federal judge who handled President-elect Donald J. Trump’s classified documents case temporarily barred the special counsel, Jack Smith, on Tuesday from releasing his final report on the investigation to the public.

In a brief ruling, Judge Aileen M. Cannon, a Trump appointee who dismissed the documents case in its entirety this summer, enjoined Mr. Smith from sharing his report outside the Justice Department until a federal appeals court in Atlanta, which is now considering a challenge to her dismissal of the case, makes a decision about how to handle the report. ...
