I really don't understand what the Democrats think the endgame of this impeachment process is.

Exposing Trump's crimes to the wider electorate. That is why the Democrats will be pushing for more witnesses to testify during the Impeachment trial, and Republicans will be pushing for the trial to be conducted solely on the evidence presented during the initial impeachment hearings.

I get that, but I don't see it having any impact. People who are for Trump will never be convinced, and everyone else already knows he's guilty as can be and unfit to be President.

It just seems like time and resources that would be better used creating the best and strongest campaign for 2020 as possible.

People who voted for Trump have been estimated to be around 20% of the population. See this thread as an example.

The goal isn't to sway Trump voters, but to sway those more moderate Republican voters, and to get non-voters to the polls next election. If everybody who was eligible to vote actually voted, Trump would be crushed. This is why Republicans spend so much time and effort gerrymandering and implementing voter suppression tactics.

There is probably something in that. Although we can't assume that that a non-voter would automatically vote against Trump if they had cast a vote. That said, Trump supporters are the ones who get to the polls to vote, so you would assume that most non-voters probably aren't Trump supporters.

I'm still not convinced that an impeachment process that can't succeed is the best way to achieve the goal, but maybe that's just me.

How do you get disenfranchised voters to vote if the party responsible for holding a corrupt administration to account just sits on their hands while this blatant corruption is continuously happening, brazenly and out in the open?

The Democrats may well know that impeachment will almost certainly fail. But history will show that at least they tried to do something, and if it wasn't for the complicit behaviour of the GOP, their famed checks and balances would've have done the job they were designed for.

You could be right. I just having a feeling that a failed impeachment will solidify his supporters behind him.

That is a very real risk. And things are going to get very messy over there leading up to their next election. I just hope the US can see sense before their democracy experiment comes crashing down. Trump and the GOP are weakening it every day.

@geekIT - great post, but you need to fix your link

"Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?" by Nate White

Feb 15, 2019 (extracts)

A few things spring to mind.

Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem.

For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace - all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed.

So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief. ...

... If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.

And this is in part why Trump has every chance of being voted back in. Democrats look at the sunny side, as a quick break down of these numbers from a different perspective

- 77,000,000 are not eligible to vote, so why include them in any stats

- 107,700,00 didn't vote, so they were happy with the decision either way (as an aside, my view is if you don't vote, then by default you support the winner)

- Based on the remaining numbers 46% voted for Trump. Therefore by working on averages, for the 77Mil and 107.7Mil 46% of them would most likely be Trump fans.

The Dems lost because they had a candidate that a significant percentage of their base didn't like and they treated Trump as a joke. I agree with Paul1977, the Dems need to spend their time and energy on finding a candidate the party can all get behind and make sure they rally their own supporters.

Saying only 20% of the population voted for Trump will make a lot of people once again go 'oh, I don't need to vote - we will easily get more than 20%'.

Unless some kind of public, televised hearing into the corrupt behaviour of the current president can energize these apathetic voters into getting out to the polls. Once again this is one of the reasons I believe the impeachment trial is necessary, even though McConnell has already said the Senate will not be convicting Trump before the trial even begins.

Trump “Has Done Nothing Wrong” and is Better Than Abraham Lincoln

Jimmy Kimmel Live

The White House announced they will not participate in the impeachment hearing, Trump once again tweeted his innocence in the Ukraine scandal, and headed to London for NATO, while 53% of Republicans said that Donald Trump is a better president than Abraham Lincoln, Melania decorated the White House for Christmas, and Joe Biden set off on his “No Malarkey” tour.

Joke's on Trump? World leaders react after hot-mic controversy

Guardian News

Donald Trump has cut short his attendance at the Nato summit in London and accused Justin Trudeau of being 'two-faced' after the Canadian leader was heard apparently mocking the president's predilection for long, impromptu press conferences at a Nato reception at Buckingham Palace. 'He was late because he takes a 40 minute press conference off the top,' Trudeau could be heard saying, as other world leaders laughed. Boris Johnson, one of those present, denied they had been joking about Trump

Title of this video should be:"'Florida man' puts woman in her place."

Good job Republicans raising the discourse of political discussion :(
