Yup i would have to agree, the way its working at the moment has fixed all the major problems i have been having

Sadly for me all HTTP downloads are still throttled at 10KB/s, single threaded and 100KB/s multi threaded.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Thought since people are reporting stuff like if they don't hammer their connection, they get better all round' speed, maybe switching out authentication username and passwords, things might change a little.

Stupid idea anyway. :)

Side effect of being human, the brain is a pattern matching organ.. it takes shortcuts to identify patterns this helps us do a lot of things quickly and effectively but also results in us sometimes "seeing" patterns that aren't actually there and are just random events.

thats three times this evening I have lost HTTP routing

can't even ping the DNS servers

required reboot of the DSL box everytime

download speeds are naff even for PDFs ... like 5kbs

totally CRAP telecom

If you're using Telecom's DNS you've got something actually wrong, there is no traffic management between you and the DNS server. If you aren't using Telecom's, I'd recommend it as it allows you access tp the various caches we have.

No I mean lost total HTTP routing

4 times in total last night

I am using telecom DNS

I lost all routing ..... I was watching TV on the normal sattv and suddenly messenger would sign out .. go look and no http tfc .... no web browsing but yahoo skype etc all working

ping the DNS server.... nothing

ping news.bbc.co.uk for example which normally available and it refused to resolve the name

would sit there for hours like that

reboot the dsl modem ... all fine

loosing routing somewhere in the network.

even with tfc shaping the service on BT is diabolical

I understand tfc shaping (I'm an IT consultant!) but not even being able to download a PDF etc of a few MB without taking hours is unbelievable

and no its not my modem .... ive tried 3 different models now!

Local traffic is not shaped, so if you can't get to the DNS it is definitely not anything to do with the traffic management on the plan.

I didnt suggest that not reaching the DNS was tfc shaping issues

thats a whole diff issue but I never suffered these issues when I was not on BT so go figure?!

but when I can reach them and the system "works" its performance is unreliable

download of even simple web pages is hit n miss .. pages half load ... fail to load ... need resent, small files like virus updates, PDFs, docs etc take ages

international pages are ridiculously slow to load

it took me 30 mins to down load a 4mb file last night .... a simple PDF

download speeds of 2k/s or less! on a 4mb line rate

talking to customer service is a waste

last time they simply muttered ohhhh BT .... yes tfc shaping blah blah

I understand tfc shaping particulary to stop the P2P downloaders and heavy gamers but this is simple network traffic, http pages and things like a PDF should not be disrupted to such an extent it makes it unusable .... thats beyond shaping thats choking!

I have had a disconnection with the internet twice, one was last week and the other last night, i didn't bother working out what was causing it so i can't say if its similar to what is posted above but there was no internet access at all, restart the modem and it was fine again.

That could come back to bite them, as far as I have seen http is capped 24 hours now, there is no offpeak time.
That is commonly called misleading advertising, something I am sure the commerce commision would investigate.
