ArranH:
Crucius: The program I use doesn't support flash or javascript. Javascript for security, flash because I don't know.

You're worried that TVNZ are going to try and hack you through javascript?

Ah, no, I was replying to a question on the previous page, I guess I should have quoted it.

The program I use, as a security feature, does not support javascript, and flash support has not been implemented yet (it's a modified version of firefox)

DravidDavid,

Isn't your Ventrilo server hosted overseas? Why are you expecting national peering would have any effect on it....

I didn't really.  I just hoped that maybe by some miricle they had either fixed it or the peering maybe made it better somehow.

Either way...Neither is true.  I know over-seas traffic is shaped but my other friends on BigTime have no trouble with it at all.

Is it an aussie based Vent server?

I have a TS3 server on my VPS based in the US, have no issues with that at all via Bigtime.

TS3: ts.nzgn.co.nz port: 9987

Thanks, I will try it later.

This is the Vent server IP:

72.51.60.188
Port: 4174

I get lots of packet loss and huge ping spikes.  Voice is choppy and almost unusable.  Everyone else on BigTime I have had connect have said it works fine.

They can hear me perfectly, upload is not effected.  But streaming their voice to my machine is almost impossable.

Well I went into the server, I can hear everyone no issues at all, sound comes through good, but I have a 250ms ping to the server which will cause afew issues for me speaking.

If it makes any difference our TS3 server is based in Dallas, Texas and the ping to it is around 150ms.

They said they have no problems at all hearing me.  Even when my ping is spiking in at 30,000 I still come through crystal clear to them.  I just hear their responce a minute later.

This is what I am talking about.  I don't understand why things work for some and not for others.  When I am at home, if I have trouble and you are around we can test and compare.

This seems like a reasonably appropriate place to ask, I'm fed up with the supplied Speedtouch modem crashing constantly when bittorrent is running (and occasionally when it's not), anyone have a suggestion for a good replacement. It's connected to a Linksys WRT54G, and if possible I'd like to get one I can run in full bridge mode, although I've heard telecom doesn't support that?

Cheers for any suggestions.

Get a decent modem that supports DDWRT. You can turn a 150 dollar modem into a 600 dollar modem. It is pretty cool.

I use a D-Link and don't have a big problem with it apart from the fact I can't specifically block ports or install 3rd party firmware.

TP Link TD 8840 >> Half bridge to your WRT54G

Depending on what version WRT54G you have you can probably flash it with Tomato or DDWRT firmware

When I was playing WoW, I ended up using my VPS to tunnel all WoW to the servers in the US, Have you thought about possibly using one of the services around that offer WoW tunnels?

Hi all, I've read through this thread and the other ones, thanks for your feedback. As you know Big Time is made possible by managing traffic on the plan. There are a number of challenges to traffic management which can see periods of varied performance. One of which is the development of software specifically designed to circumvent traffic management. This makes it necessary for us to make continual updates to the specific traffic management of the plan and then take time to review the impact of the updates.

Feel free to send me a message if you feel there is something more I should know (beyond what has already been posted).

Thanks
Dean.
