I asked on teh twitters (https://twitter.com/davidcole/status/460523036551041024) if http traffic had an issue on Telecom ADSL.  Seems if I go to http google.com it fails to connect.  But https google.com works as advertised.

A few other sites are the same, and I had replies from others they saw the same things.

Humm weird... I can access google.co.nz and I am working from home today. stuff, cnn, aljazeera, bbc.. all load fine for me (and I am not on a bypass list).

I'll flick an email to the cache folks tho, and ask the Broadband Helpdesk if they have noticed anything.

I was trying .com...but tried http://www.google.co.nz and no joy.....until I changed to https://www.google.co.nz

I
would have blamed unblockus - but I see others are having the same issue.

I am not sure if this is related but as of 20 to 30 mins ago - I am having trouble connecting to several sites. Too many to list...yet I go through with my VPN and the sites come up fine.

Yup me to. Some NZ sites work, TradeMe for example. I'm posting this by VPN'ing from the UK, I can't access GZ otherwise.

Yep, intermittent weirdness since logging in at 8 am. Sites randomly falling to load even though nslookup (against the telecom dns servers) and tracert are fine.

Multiple OS and browsers, currently accessing geekzone on VF mobile.

Same here on Telecom VDSL. Any non Telecom connected site is now unreachable on http. Sites that support https do work such as google, youtube, facebook, etc.
Telecom's transparent caching proxies (I think Bluecoat) need to be checked by Telecom, they mess with our traffic too much for the last couple of months. Is it the Giganaire effect?

I'm being told from a number of sources this is a Global Gateway problem

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...
