the posts are WAY too tall. ;)

(it's all your moved buttons.)

edit: could they be reduced to a small horizontal row of icons? - and "Set Answer" should be over on the right with quote/edit.

The twitter/PM etc buttons in the top right of all replies/posts seem to have disappeared as well.

Yes, the Add Friend, Set Answer, etc, on the left is taking up a lot of real estate.

lol... I somehow didn't connect some disappearing in the top right, with new ones appearing on the left. :P
Cheers.

I'm just conditioned to see things as I expect them.

All about testing. A small row of icons would be "lost". The buttons take too much space. But really, those buttons shouldn't be on the topic like before (except perhaps Set Answer as noted).

We had images before, but one per line. One of the reasons I decided not to use images now is to reduce page load times even more - less images means faster.

Agreed, tbh. That, and the fact that people wouldn't know what they were and which did what anymore. (how often do those buttons get used anyway? (semi-rhetorical)).

How about a CSS drop down menu? Kinda how similar items are done in vbulletin?

Agreed. That's a helluva lot of real estate. Not sure I like having to scroll more.

Let's see how it behaves. The problem with CSS dropdown and script dropdown is that we have a lot of mobile users and some browsers may not support it.

I have removed links to blog, website and twitter as these are available from the public profile page anyway.

Sorry but where is the -1 for this new 'feature', it's a evolutionary step backwards in my books. And since when were GZ page load times poor, I've never had an issue!

I didn't say load times were poor. I said I wanted to make it faster, by avoiding loading objects. Creating buttons instead of images seemed like a way of doing it.

In my first "draft" I didn't have spaces between the buttons - and that would make things shorter but could also means wrong clicks - a problem with buttons or images.
