I’ve tottally lost internet at home - on Vodafone fibre
The Vodafone Ultra hub has all the green lights on including Internet but there is just no connection and no webpages load

Tried to call Vodafone but no matter which number I call I get an automated message “sorry we cannot connect you due to network congestion”

Anyone else lost Internet this morning?

Yeah had a very scary 15 minutes here (Wellington) when both FibreX home broadband and Vodafone mobile were down. The isolation was overwhelming; another 10 minutes and I would have had to start chipping stone to make spearheads.

Yup, me too. Looking here https://downdetector.co.nz/problems/Vodafone would suggest it's nationwide.

Yeah, down for me that came right about 10 minutes ago … not sure how long as I was vacuuming 😀 (Wellington)

I had the same problem. My phone is working again, but my 4G router is still dead despite having restarted it.

Same here. Started around 10:30am. Cellular came back up after 10-15min however fiber broadband is still down

Their DNS servers seem to be busted.

203.109.191.1
203.118.191.1

Changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1 and my VF home broadband and mobile phone connections started to work again.

Just got mobile data back again about 5 minutes ago.

I'm in West Auckland.

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

Which begs the question, will telco/ISP based DNS servers go the same way as 'included' email services, and everyone uses public DNS services?

It's possible, but unlikely. Having control over DNS is part of what allows them to do non-Net-Neutrality things like separate "social data".

For the record, I too experienced an internet outage on fibre this morning -- data was out for about half an hour, VoIP phone was out for an hour. And their own phone numbers weren't working either.

Nope. Unless people understand the downsides of public DNS servers you should never really use them.. And I'm not saying public DNS servers are bad - merely that unless you fully understand how DNS works and the potential downsides that they deliver zero benefit to most users.
