Does anybody really know how much traffic spend for 1 hour?

OK, AFAIK the codec is running at 16K, which is 16 kiloBITS per second (I may be wrong here) so

16 * 60 * 60 = 57600 kilobits per HOUR

/ 8 = 7200 kilo BYTES per hours

About 7 MEG for an hour. Sounds about right, based on my knowledge of codec's vrs bitrates.

Nic, there is also TCP overhead to consider.

I also used to work on similar figures to yours until I got my router with Bandwidth Management. It shows the ACTUAL traffic from a given IP address so you can easily see what is really going on. The displayed data rates seem correct too. If I restrict the bandwidth to my PAP2 by any significant amount (say more than 5%) below the displayed figure, I start to get dropouts.

Further, I have also observed the bandwidth used by G711u is about 85kbps in each direction. That would use about 76MB per hour, which is starting to get up there...

We have generally based it around

24Mb per hour for G729
76mb per hour for G711

So hence the reason we generally use G729 as the preferred Voice Codec

Thats it, from my POV. Oh, and a phone, obviously.

You then go to the XNET website and sign up (specifying your MAC address), they call you to confirm all your details etc, and you get a provisioning string.

You'll need to open up port 5060 (TCP and UDP I think??) on your router, so it goes to the PAP2T's IP address.

Thats it.

No, actually Nic. Phil said that none of that Port Forwarding stuff is necessary with VFX.

They have got the PAP2 config. sorted out properly so its NAT Traversal features are working correctly (unlike iTalk).

I have no Port Forwarding whatsoever, and the PAP2 is working like a charm.

You have to supply the MAC address of your PAP2T to VFX and then reconfirm it over the phone. This is to prevent your account being hijacked I guess.

However, you will not be able to buy any new PAP2Ts at present for the reasons that Hads mentioned earlier.

I just checked and that whole range of products have been withdrawn from Ingram Micro's ordering web site. IM are the authorised Linksys distributor for NZ.

You can probably find a second-hand PAP2 on TradeMe, or wait for Hads to import some from the US.

But they want a person, don't know if existing customer can get any advantage from it but I can do it. :)

Maverick - Is there any chance of capped calling rates being introduced on VFX?

We currently use Xnet for tolls, and get $1.85 capped national tolls for up to 2 hours.
Using VFX the same call could cost up to $6, so not as good a rate as the analogue line...

Take it quickly while you can. There isn't usually much stock of this item around the country.

$135.78 is not too bad. I think if you import from the US it will be more expensive.
