Just tried that again. Windows Update started displaying something about 'Checking System Requirements' then said 'successfully installed 1 update' -- which happened to be a Canon Printer software update. Not Windows 10.

I think we all have to wait until 4pm or 6pm whenever it is released in the U.S. to be able to install the upgrade.

I have tried this, windows update is now downloading the upgrade so I will try this method.

My upgrade had already been downloaded automatically but as with others the automatic process is stalled for some reason.

It's been said over and over that the roll-out starts on the 29th. Insiders will typically get it today, other will get it staged over the next week or maybe even month.

It's just an operating system people. Calm down. No-one's going to die if you don't get an upgrade today.

People die all the time, 5 people will have died by the time I've finished writing this sentence, and they will never have had the chance to use Windows 10.

Well, at least they will have died happy :P

MikeB4:
dafman: So, has anyone in NZ been automatically prompted by their PC to say it's downloaded and ready for install, have successfully managed to install, and are now up and running? My read of the situation is not yet?

I can vote no for me, 1x Surface 3 currently 8.1 no prompt but files there. 1x PC currently Win 10 10240 preview but no prompt and cannot find files.

Might be mistaken with the exact version number, but I'm pretty sure I read elsewhere that Win 10 10240 preview was in fact the final RTM version and so there wouldn't be an upgrade from that. Hence the lack of prompt and no files would make sense.

after leaving my Surface sitting all day for a prompt I decided to check what was happening the BT file was there, however in the update history there was about 80 'failed'  entries for the Windows 10 upgrade. Something tells this is not going according to plan

OK I did this and my Surface is now installing Windows 10. It would seem that it had stalled somewhere in the process..

What this error means is, your Windows 10 installation folder is unfinished and/or corrupted. Now, how do you fix that?
1. Go into "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and delete everything in that folder.
2. Now, run the command prompt as an administrator. Type in "wuauclt.exe /updatenow".
3. Go to your Control Panel > Windows Update and your Windows 10 should start re-downloading from scratch, hopefully without flaws this time.

With all these failed and restarted downloads the MS servers must be getting a good workout I suspect, and from the consumers point of view if you don't have an uncapped plan you may want to check how much data your eating, just a thought.
