We have a big new Woolworth's in Hastings. Presumable under the same management because just like the old one, the new one clearly thinks they are such a god's gift to shoppers that they don't have to offer any customer service. In spite of multiple shiny new checkout counters, only one is ever staffed and the queue winds around the store as shoppers patiently wait to be parted from their money. It has been like this for years and I try to avoid it as much as possible. Unfortunately there are some items I like that I can only get there.

Our local new world started doing this. I ended up having a chat with the store manager who happened to walk past me one day. I expressed my dismay at the self checkout trend. A few months later he actually sent me an email and said my feedback and others had led him to believe they were better with more operators. Now around half the checkouts are manned, and they have a couple of floating 'packers'. It might be more expensive than elsewhere, but I think that's a decent bit of customer service.

That RNZ's "new style" pages, such as this one, scroll back up to the top once loading completes (at least in Firefox). The connection here at work is a bit slow, and this can result in being "thrown out" of an article when you're trying to read it.

I make a point of avoiding Woolworth's as much as possible but the location and product availability sometimes make that the least bad choice. We really need more supermarkets or other supermarkets or maybe something other than supermarkets in this country. I really hate the shopping experience here and try to avoid it as much as I can.

I assume you have tried click and collect? We use it sometimes for dry goods but find their fruit and veges don't tend to be as good as in store.

I used it during Covid but got sick of store shoppers saying they couldn't find things or substituting ridiculous things, like chicken soup for tomato when I am a vegetarian!

Had my tonsils out earlier this week, and damn if my throat ain't half sore. I've been told it's meant to be worst by day 3 but that's been and gone now and I'm still finding it uncomfortable swallowing. How long until I can enjoy normal food again??

Cities are good for this. Lots of random grocery stores which usually have much better quality and price on fresh produce.

Why is it so flippin' difficult to find a stroller with a reversible handle. And not a reversible seat and not at some joke NZ price.

Sorry I can't help with that question, but one of my father's favourite stories that he likes to tell is the time he went into hospital as a young lad to have his tonsils out. What made it so special for him is that he was allowed to have as much ice cream as he wanted. That's the part he remembers, not how much it hurt at the time (although I'm sure it did).

Oh I did the vomiting thing the next day, luckily they had put a bowl for that in front of me (at my suggestion).

Just had a call from the surgery, they did mention I could be coming up to the peak pain day - apparently this is around day 8 - so to keep all my medications going, which is what I've been doing.

This afternoon hasn't been too bad, it's just when I lay down to sleep or first thing in the morning it's the most uncomfortable.

I’ve always understood that it’s a more major surgery and more painful if you have it done as an adult - as compared to when you’re a little kid. (This isn’t meant to be a joke or TIC).

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I remember the sore throat and the ice cream. I don't remember being nauseous and I don't remember the sore throat being especially painful, just sore. I did enjoy the ice cream. It was all a very long time go.

Our little 4 yr old niece had them done and we visited after she came round. She was dancing all over the room and talking with a croaky voice. She went home the next morning and apparently didn’t complain of pain at all. We were flabbergasted.

The old days you got ice cream and jelly but I do remember waking in pain at age 10.

That Mrs. Floyd (I love her dearly, probably always will) steadfastly refuses to take an e-reader when travelling by plane and would rather carry three big, fat and heavy physical paper books. Even when I explain the added benefit of being able to increase the font to mitigate the eyesight deterioration that comes with aging.

Auto-correct is why I have crust issues.
