geekIT:

What do you think about the Auckland couple who broke the anti-Covid rules?

They've apparently been granted interim name suppression. Is this fair?

Personally I think everyone should get automatic name suppression.

Once you have been found guilty then you should loose name suppression.

Innocent until proven guilty, there is too much trial by media and too much deliberate misinformation these days.

kobiak:They still deciding if these 2 would be charged. why-the-hell?

I suspect any hesitancy is due to the profession of said "high ranking official"

Hmm. Actually, the 'high ranking official' was also fined for a recent breach of the law.

Name suppression of the parent is reasonable as the son is 35 yes old...

But the people themselves should be named once court case settled is my 2 cents even if convicted and discharged.

The people who I imagine they are trying to hide their names from - perspective employers, the parent's mates etc -

:

Two spoilt brats do a runner from Auckland, fraudulently using a document in the process (allegedly, of course), and the rich parent hires a QC to hide all their identities...

Fixed it for you.  Ladies can be successful too.

As far as I could tell the son lives at home on the family estate.

While I acknowledge the sentiment of your post, and fully agree with it, all indications that have been reported thus far suggest that my initial post was correct - bearing in mind I'm discussing this case in particular, not success overall.

Time to go back to the old days with stocks or pillories in the town squares!

Nothing like a good bit of public humiliation 🙃

And the Mother is also heavily and directly involved in the business that the son undertakes.

(Although there is a whole lot of scrubbing going on with her transferring shares to other people today)

Their first response to being outed was to hire a QC and finagle themselves an urgent night hearing for name suppression.

Justice is for the rich.

Interim suppression is fair. When and if they are charged, then then don't deserve any suppression, as its now a fact. If I was arrested for robbing a bank but it wasn't me, I'd want suppression

And someone unrelated has been pitchforked

But the mother of the woman with the same name as the alleged flouter said it had been "an absolutely terrible 12 hours" for her daughter as people tracked her down and shared her photo around different chat groups on social media.

As far as you could tell, does son own a boxer dog that mother sometimes walks?

At what age does a person become independent of their parents? So that their actions aren't related to or a responsibility of or reflection on their parents?

I'd have said age 21. Or maybe 18 nowadays.

I suspect that the parent(s) (or, even more likely, a family trust) is/are the owner(s) of the Wanaka holiday home. Anyone know if this is the case?

This is more an example of why name suppression shouldn't be granted, so innocent unrelated people AREN'T unduly affected.

As others have said, the horse has bolted with regards to name suppression.

I see what you did there.
