Odd! Good find! I'll add that to the troubleshooting steps!

sidefx: Doh, I think I found the cause. Under "Telephony->Own Telephone Numbers -> Line Settings" theres a setting "Use additional connection for Internet telephony via DSL (PVC)" which I'm sure I've never touched but for some reason it was ticked.

I've unchecked it and done a couple of quick tests and all seems fine now...

thats always been ticked on mine..

Oh hmm, it has?  Are you with snap voip or another provider?  I'm with 2talk so perhaps it should only be ticked if you have voip with snap?

I'll keep an eye on it and report if there still seem to be any issues

sidefx: Damn, and I was considering trying an an update to see if it resolved an issue I'm having with VOIP - my internet slows way down (practically stopping) while on a VOIP call through the fritzbox. I've tried removing the Telephony QoS rule but it didn't make any difference.

What's the difference between .55 and .51?

Is there a .55? The ftp site (ftp://ftp.avm.de/fritz.box/) only seems to have .51 for both:

stevehodge: Thanks, I knew about those links but I think you're saying that the .22 firmware there has telnet enabled while the .22 firmware installed by Snap does not. Is that right?

indeed, when i had the snap sent out 7390 on the .22 firmware, there was no telnetd included, but since downgrading, its still there

That's interesting. I might try reinstalling that firmware.

looks like .55 may have been an imagened number we pulled out of nowhere and ran with! it is indeed .51 looking at my backups..

looks good to me, after reading it though...

for reference, port blocking was referring to the dslam port getting blocked until the linecard is rebooted.

Cheers.

Right, that's what I understood, I'll reword for clarity.

given the recent stream of chorus failures, curious... where is it stated what is expected of a technician at installation? im having a bit of trouble pulling anything up that could be argued its for UBF rather than VDSL specification..

sooo, tech visited today..

turns out, hes not a vdsl tech. simply a tech filling in for another.. why a replacement vdsl tech wasnt set out for that, i really dont understand...

after letting him tinker for a good 20 mins or so, i went to him "urm mate, i dont mean to be telling you how to do your job, but as part of a vdsl installation, is it not mandatory to run a cat5e line from the ETP?"

he had to contact chorus previsioning to check this, responding with, it is a rental and so no cables are too be ran.

so after making him dig around, inspect everything.. turns out, out line is on the second pair of the neighbours connection, even though there are two lines ran to the house.

i was given the offer to have a cable ran from the hot water cupboard(yes, that wasnt a alarm line afterall) but then, its straight back into the rats nest of wiring that needs sorting so wasnt much point at all.

so, now we need to have chorus out, to do their wiring from the pole, and then vision stream can come back out to do the internal wiring...

oh and apparently this is one of the few areas with cable running to it, what a shame snap cant run us over that!

gfs comments are "maybe we should just move". this is getting absurd now..

waiting on the tech that came out to submit his notes so we can make any possible press on an update...
