Another ddDLM change this morning while I was snoozing

Interleave depth has come right down from 800+ to 101.
Back to a very nice speed boost with downstream on 6db SNR, using the V130 Modem 8 allows me 17a profile as well.
Quite chuffed

My problem I reported a couple of pages back went away for a couple of days, my download speeds had certainly dropped a bit but the net was usable. ddDLM change this morning and my Download speeds are reported to be nearly 60Mbps down, but when using the net it's under 1Mbps :/ sometimes pages won't even load or half of the content is missing. Heck, I can't even load a speedtest half the time! So something really odd is going on!

If your modem sync at 60 MBps but your Internet is unusable then I would think the problem is not the line from your house to the cabinet or anything to with ddDLM. Your problem is likely to be your own equipments ie. your PC, WiFi Access Point or your ISP. My guess it is more likely your own equipment/end point and not the ISP causing the performance problem.

Start with known good PC configuration and a known good access point and start to trouble shoot from there.

Hey Smalltrader,

Thanks for the feedback. I don't believe it's a local equipment fault. I have changed from the Huawei Spark provided router to an Asus one and it made no difference. I have a third VDSL Router I could try.

I've tried 3 different PC's, 4 phones, 2 ipads, LAN connected consoles etc...Lots of different devices, all the same result.

As soon as the ddDLM change is made that i'm getting the lines 'max' speed it all turns to custard, if I reboot the router enough and it changes my downstream line rate to a slightly lower rate, the net is perfect.

Could you please post modem stats. It is conceivable that ddDLM is being too aggressive in pushing your VDSL sync speed resulting in massive CRC errors. Massive CRC errors obviously will impact performance. However, your case looks to be rather unique to have so many CRC errors resulting in unusable Internet. It is Possible and Modem stats will tell CRC errors that you are currently having.

Keep rebooting the modem is not a long term solution as it will confuse ddDLM in terms of making Sync speed changes. Start with the modem stats and you may have to report the case to your ISP.

If you are with Spark @Hio77 may be able to shed some light on your case.

Here are the modem stats; BTW, i'm already in communication with Hio, he's a legend :D

I cannot find any information/stats on the Huawei 695b in regards to CRC errors

DSL synchronization status: Up

Connection status: Showtime

Upstream line rate (kbit/s): 11815

Downstream line rate (kbit/s): 59109

Maximum upstream rate (kbit/s): 11720

Maximum downstream rate (kbit/s): 59090

Upstream noise safety coefficient (dB): 5.2

Downstream noise safety coefficient (dB): 6

Upstream interleave depth: 0

Downstream interleave depth: 0

Line standard: VDSL

Upstream line attenuation (dB): 37.1

Downstream line attenuation (dB): 17.2

Upstream output power (dBmV): 5.9

Downstream output power (dBmV): 14.6

Downstream interleave depth: None

Just to make this more of a head scratcher, i'm downloading through steam at the moment at my full line speed (6.4MB/s) and when doing so, viewing webpages is far more stable than when i'm not saturating the line.

This is with me being looked at already.

fault is almost certainly located, rather extreme line errors which would cause both slow throughput and dropouts/slow sync as experienced.

My line did a re-sync earlier in the week. SNR hasn't changed but the attainable speeds went up by ~10Mbps on both Up/Down

Real world speeds haven't changed of course because of the cap, it would be nice if those were lifted :)

its not a cap. i believe its a physical limitation on the line card.

According to this comment by @hio77 they're artificially limited:

I wonder what the actual limit is?

VDSL DLM maintenance scheduling at my place seems to occur at about 0530 in the middle of an America's cup race.

Can the scheduled time be changed in any way?

I have an HG659 on a Skinny uncapped BB plan.

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

I don't think it can be scheduled.

This may be a artificial cap in the software, but there is a physical hardware reasoning behind it too.

Great to hear you got a notification for a planned outage, unfortunately no there is no way to reschedule this.

Normally downtime is sub 5 mins however... windows are set longer encase anything goes wrong etc.

No notification received...

Only indication was that my VDSL was not working for several minutes....

IP remained the same so I guess there was some sort of re-sync...
