Well just bought an Xperia windows phone by mistake... Currently use a Dodgy Nokia smartphone and want to use some specific android apps (but would not consider iOS, too much of a closed shop). Can't think of any reason to keep the windows phone at all, so its up on the offers forum if any of you want it. Has been quite hard to find a phone with qwerty keyboard, but not interested in jumping from one unstable operating system to another.

Time to find a new industry!

The Sony Xperia X1 *is not* a Windows Phone. It's an old (2007/2008) Windows Mobile 6.0 device.

That was a costly mnistake, buying a six years old phone. Who sold you that piece of history?

Even though it's getting a bit long in the tooth I like my Nokia E7 just because it has a very good qwerty keyboard. All of my replies on Geekzone tonight have been done on the E7.

Nokia (Symbian) Belle works quite well, it's stable, with very good features, has excellent battery life, though it would benefit from a faster processor.

If you really want a qwerty keyboard and don't mind an older model phone the E7 is worth a look.

Even at $50 I wouldn't touch a WinMo 6.1 fone again. Worst OS that was ever designed..

Symbian was far from the worst although I found it provided too little and too late.

I really enjoyed Symbian on Sony Ericsson phones with the UIQ touch interface which made Symbian much more accessible. I liked being able to write my messages. I could use most things without the stylus but it gave additional control e.g. drawing.

PS In comparison Windows mobile was far less responsive.

Personally, I have it arranged in my mind like this when it comes to mobile OS's, from best > worst.

Simplicity (overall user experience, learning curve and overall ecosystem "tightness"):
Windows Phone > iOS > Android

App market size, quality of apps, frequency of app updates:
iOS > Android > Windows Phone

OS update support (frequency of updates, older device support, OS version consistency, roll-out size)
iOS > Windows Phone > Android

Customisability/openness:
Android > Windows Phone > iOS

Another key point: Microsoft sets minimum specs for Windows Phone devices, meaning that even entry-level handsets tend to outperform Android entry-level handsets and MS has done some awesome software optimizations to give a snappy, responsive feeling to everything.

Windows Phone 8.1 looks so tempting but the lack of gapless playback is show-stopper. I have a set of tracks that have no silence at the beginning or end which should mean that the tracks go from one to the other without there being any silence yet when I had my Lumia 1020 there was a gap (original CD had no gap, the FLAC ripped version had no gap and playback in iTunes it has no gap).

Which isn't exactly an ideal solution - I understand that gapless playback requires cross fading etc. but the tracks I have actually have no silence at the beginning or the end of the track which should mean that there is no gap between tracks being played so one can only come to the conclusion that the player itself is inserting the gap of silence rather than allowing the music to playback to back without there being a gap. I'm hoping though that maybe VLC will push out a player for Windows Phone with gapless playback which should make having a Windows Phone a more viable option.
