I guess that's where my thoughts diverge slightly. I am not considering the current state (difficulty setting up, drop outs, interference, quality issues etc) but rather with the likely near future state where these issues are designed out of the equation, and yes contact-less everything becomes ubiquitous. There wont be any issues charging at the same time because no one will want wired headphones anymore (or wired chargers), music controls will be voice command or touch controlled, there will be a variety of wireless headphone options for all situations, including sports models for those that want more security against loss. Contact-less technology opens up a whole new world of possibilities.
Will it catch on? I don't know. Am I overly concerned about the removal of technology that's been around since the 60's? Nope. I can't think the last time I actually plugged something into the headphone jack, and I don't consider myself a tech fanboy with the latest and greatest.
Ah I see what you mean now... yes that future sounds nice. It will be interesting to see if Apple can take us there (despite some of us kicking and screaming no). To me it seems like a small step in that direction with too many downsides, as opposed to fixing a more pressing issue first, battery power, which also takes us a step closer to a wireless world and has no downsides at all.
I'm sure it will catch on one day, there's no stopping progress... in the meantime the early adopters can beta test the future for the rest of us ;)
