Hey!

I'm looking at buying an iPhone 4, but I am a little concerned about the battery life.

I have done my research and it seems that there are people who are using their phones non-stop for 4 hours with push email on and about 10 other programs running and they complain that the battery life only lasts for four hours.

I want to know from someone who has an iPhone4 with realistic usage, past the honeymoon stage. Maybe Gmail push on, 30mins of calling/day and about 30 min of browsing per day. How long does the battery actually last?

So aside from the early adopters with US iPhones, it is a little early to say.

not a good comparison as only one call in the last period for a couple of minutes, however in last couple of hours since taken off the charger it still states 99% battery
Usage 27minutes
Standby 1hour, 46 mins

I have push email running on 2 exchange accounts and 2 mobile me accounts, also have a pop and gmail/imap running on 15min fetch

Has been in wifi whole time, and 3G shifting between 2 and 4 bars

Happy to give an update later.

(was still saying 100% when started the post.. just edited to 99%) and 29mins / 1hr 48

I have a feeling you will be disappointed. you might get 2 days with average usage but it seems to be pretty standard to charge devices every night now. just about everyone i know charges there phone every night. i have to charge my ipod every night and it sits on charge for most of the day. battery lasts about 4 hrs of internet.

but i see where you are coming from i never use my phone now because i have to charge it every night but my charger died so i have to use my ipod charger so i cant charge both at once so my phone goes flat and i dont bother with it.

lol i just thought about that and im thinking about getting an iphone so my phone is charged i could always spend $30 on a new charger or a 2 port charger mmmm na iphone 4

You will need to recharge it every night. It's just something you get used to with any smart phone.

I'm happy to charge every night if I have to but I *need* it to last a full day. Sometimes that means from 6/7am until 12am midnight.

I charged my phone fully last night and it came off the charger at 10am.

I have used it pretty heavily today because it's new and all but not full time. It is now 4:25pm:

Usage: 3 hours 11 minutes
Standby: 6 hours 24 minutes
Callt time: 4 minutes

Battery: 36%

Not happy but knowing how batteries work, it takes a few charge cycles before the battery is at its best right? I hope so.

Hmm I've used mine since around 7am today. 75% battery.

Usage: 2hrs 40 mins
Standby 9 hours 20 mins
Call time: 5 mins

Wifi on. Push notifications on everything.

Usage has been mix of app store downloading, web browsing, games, ipod, mail and camera (including flash).

As I said I just need it to actually get through a full day's usage (typically not heavy but it should be able to handle a "heavy" day) - based on my first day's battery life I am going to be extremely disappointed.

Just got my 20% warning - 8:40pm

My usage data was reset because my iPhone shat itself at 5pm and was non-responsive. Needed to reset the damned thing but no restore needed.

I always go back to a non smart phones comparison.. I used to use a Nokia 3G tethered as 3G modem. After 90 mi utes it was dead...
I would still expect to recharge iPhone 4 each night, and so long as it lasts from 7to7 I am happy

9:33 and still at 46%
usage 3hr 55mins. And that is possibly more than normal. Lots of browsing, gps and testing new apps.
Stndby. 8 hrs 30mins

Took a drive just after last post so not sure if for 10 mins in car topped up a little and also reset the counters

I'm currently on usage 5 hours 4 mins, standby 11 hours 27, 6 mins calltime and 27% battery charge remaining.

Usage was mostly maps with GPS while driving (not me ;) and games (Chopper 2).

So I'd say the battery life is pretty good but still going to need a nightly charge with heavy usage.
