Unfortunately, I misunderstood the process for trading in my Kindle, and so I now need to locate, ideally cheap as chips or less even, an Amazon Kindle. Any generation doesn't need to be in working condition though ideally, it would be required to arrive to me in Auckland prior to lunchtime on Monday at the latest.

PM me if you have anything suitable.

I have a older semi non working one.. I dropped it, broke the screen, which I then replaced myself with a screen off Ali. The new screen works fine, except now all the kindle will do is tell me it needs to be repaired :-P

That would be ideal.

Alternately, I'm sure that I have am older (pre-PaperWhite) one sitting in a drawer at home that I could send you (for the WLG-AKL courier fee) if required.

It's just gathering dust currently

networkn: I'm going to the US shortly

So am I. I thought it was US based customers only that could do this (like so many other things!) so good to know that I can do it too. SWMBO gave me a new Oasis for Christmas so won't be for a while though.

Well, I am currently in a scrap with them about how they are going to logistically manage it. We shall see.

Looks like you have a couple of offers above, but if they don’t work out, I have an older one that is otherwise probably destined for recycling. It seems to now permanently have a screen telling you to connect power.

That could mean your battery is toast.

I just replaced the battery on my KindleDX - cost about $35 from an online store here in NZ. Job took about 10 minutes.

FWIW, I've has success in recovering from this state by recharging the battery and then performing a hard-reset (hold power button for 45 seconds)

Thank you - it took a few tries, but that did indeed bring it back to life. May still need to replace the battery.

I too did this with my fathers a few months back too.  Device hadn't been used in quite a while.  Wouldn't turn on but after going through this process, it's now back to life again.

So, the process for the Kindle upgrade has changed quite a lot. Now you only get 20 not 25%, and you can't opt to take the discount and order the new one before or after you have shipped back the old one. This left a very tight deadline to arrive in the US, find a suitable return point, wait for it to return, inspect and approve, order the replacement and get it shipped. Thankfully, as usual, Amazon are very prompt with THEIR part and I did end up getting the new Oasis mid way through my trip.

I wish I hadn't really though, the old one is better in most regards. The new one uses a new form factor which has a larger screen which is nice whilst you actually are reading it, and as usual the screen is top notch, however the new form factor means you can't find it in a large inside pocket any more. You must carry it, which is quite a downgrade.  The new warm light is of little benefit in my experience, perhaps some I can't detect (yes I understand the blue light argument). The new unit is somewhat more powerful so navigation is marginally quicker which I do like.

All in all, I probably wish I'd held on to the old one and not upgraded. As someone who has owned all the flagship Kindles since release, this is the first one I have felt this way.
