Well tonight's a blowout internationally: 0.9Mb to Sydney, 1.18Mb to LA.

What a joke. I used to be so happy with Orcon.

I wish I had that excuse.  I've got a splitter at the demarc, and still get crap speeds.  On the plus side, an Orcon CSR confirmed yet again that the issue is highly likely (they don't like saying they're certain) to be the line running to my premises (apparently my internal wiring is 2M ohm, the on premises line is 2M ohm, but somewhere outside of that it's MUCH higher resistance).  Unlike the last guy, he didn't suggest just throttling my traffic to avoid disconnects, and has lodged a fault with Chorus (props for that).  I do not however want to have to call back in 6 weeks with the same problem because Chorus not only didn't fix it, but didn't even look at it.  For the fifth time.

Is it just me, or does Chorus seem to ignore any issues not affecting Telecom Retail customers?

Just ran more test and not getting more then 1mbs to anywhere in the states at the moment 11pm just tryed playing cod4 and the lag is way too much to play.local im getting good speeds too auckland but anywhere else locally or sydney is absolute crap, I call them tomorrow aswell and get one of there techs(chorus guys) to go look at my exchange aswell. must be the fault there as the csr ran a test this evening and he was getting 8mbs to los angeles from there office.

Be the first time i would of ask for them too send a tech too the exchange.time will tell :)

yeah thats what he told me on the phone, I was trying to tell him that a international bandwidth upgrade happen last week and speeds went good again but only for a week, up untill thursday night just gone things went to custard.Surely the new international bandwitdh upgrade cant run out that quick, and especially if there getting those good speed results on there end.
Got to be something wrong at the exchange is all i can think as my speed issues started to arise may this year and i have already had 3 tickets placed.
I call orcon on monday if no improvements and have them send someone out to the exchange.

Just to put this thread back on topic briefly:

I said I would post a week after joining Telecom, so here is my update.

Just to clarify, I am not on a big time plan, -- rather I am on a 20 gig plan, with uncapped speeds.

So my experience for the week has been thus:

WoW - perfect performance in 25 man raids .... in fact using a SSH tunnelling service (which I tried with orcon and failed miserably) is allowing me to have approximately 150ms latency in 25 man raids.... I am so stoked with that.

Youtube - perfect performance in both SD and HD videos. It takes about 3 seconds to buffer enough to be ahead for the entire video. It doesn't matter how obscure the video seems to be, it plays the way it should.

Geneal Browsing - Telecom is far quicker. Let me qualify this. At the point that I press "enter" on an address, the new page shows up instantly, and the actual content on the page loads with a rapidity I remember from Orcon in early 2007.

Speeds - I am getting national and international speeds within 4-5% of my sync rate. Consistantly, any time of the day.

-----------------

Bottom line is this.... if you have had enough of Orcon.... had enough of the "Oh we are getting a bandwidth upgrade this week" (only to find they have just adjusted their traffic management) then I can recommed telecom.

I realise this is a very small sample size (one week of use) but compared to Orcon... it is bliss.

You need to spend more time finding Iggy a band not using Orcons Internet service.
