richms: Uhoh I have ended up with a nokia 2630 not a 2730 somehow. Dont know how that happened. Unless it was because I signed up online and not over the phone as the site now required.

Dont' open the packaging and contact the call centre to advise.

We'll re-ship the correct one.

Double and triple checked the system. Looks like you picked the wrong phone.. all good, just contact us to swap it.

I clicked the one that said free on it, there were only 2 choices from what I recall.

Already opened it :( only noticed when I saw nowhere to put a sd card into it. Cant call till later in the day so will do then.

I also signed up online using the link that was on the page detailing the offer including 100 free text and 20 free minutes per month. I assume I will get them.

If not then it seems a bit rich that Slingshot is telling people there rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act but ignoring the Fair Trading Act at the same time.

All customers that sign up will receive the offer as stated (signed up online or not). We've also setup a clean up process to double check all accounts. No one will miss out.

In terms of why we changed it, it's due to the bug and the time taken to fix it. So a decision was made to send everyone via a single channel after the offer was released, rather than fix it on the fly...during a campaign. Not a good idea as could cause more problems.

Essentialy damage control given the demand we're receving.

Has there been wicked demand for this over the last day?

A family member rang last night just before 10pm and got signed up straight away - must have kept the poor girl on until well past closing time. Anyway, I rang tonight and was told they'd have to take my name and get someone to call back due to heavy demand!

I can see why though - this is a pretty awesome deal.

I'm frantically running around spreading the news about this crazy incredible offer.

One signup already (on the spot), another pending, and heaps of other interest (if only in how amazing the offer is). Good word of mouth for the Slingshot brand.

Hrm. After being on hold for 40mins a lady told me that my phone, which was ordered Monday will be sent out Friday... Undecided

I'm telecom through and through, however this is a bloody good deal. Not a fan of Nokias either but this model's not too shabby either.

Well done slingshot.

Having thought about this offer long and hard I can only come up with one major "catch" for the offer apart from:

1. $9.95 courier fee (which was not disclosed upfront, and only is mentioned well into the signup process over the phone - but which I accept is insignificant considering the overall offer), and;

2. If you decide to port your number to another provider or plan at the end of 12 months then I suspect you will be up for at least some pro rata of the $20 monthly fee that is due in the 13th month. You wouldn't do a port in the 12 month for fear of incurring an early disconnection penalty (far too difficult/impossible to plan to port it out exactly at the end of 12 month). So if you do it (say) in the first week of the 13th month then I suspect Slingshot would still charge you some or all of that $20 for the 13th month no matter how quickly you try to port in the 13th month.

Of course I'm hoping that the mobile market changes enough over the next 12 months that people that take up this offer will be offered something amazing next year to avoid a mass exodus of customers (hint hint Wink)

Yup there has, it's starting to spread virally :)

Thinking about developing some sort of method to transport it around the web better. Potentially a youtube vid.
