stroke64: I'm voting with my feet. Signed up for a Telecom phone/broadband package tonight. Don't care how much it costs or if I have to pay more to get it done sooner. All I want is my online life back.

Have to agree here.

I switched across to my Telecom Total Home plan with 20gig Adventurer plan last week.  Still have another 3 weeks on the Orcon account - but am happy to pay to get rid of poor service.

Which is telling you something about how bored I was of listening to CSR's remind me about tickets and faults and options.

On the Iggy front - do you think Iggy could license some of his tracks for the hold music when you call up Orcon?

Lust for Life??

As opposed to the slow death from being on hold.

ORCON: Please actually update your Network Status page once in a while with this kind of crap. Thanks.

Imagine how stable the internet would be if ISP's had to compensate users who reported issues like this. Maybe they would try a little harder.

I know its not just that simple, but come on. Honestly.

Also, on a side note: When/If I do change, should I expect downtime with my Internet connection, or will the swap over be almost instantaneous?

I called on Monday to order Telecom Total Home - was told broadband would go live in 3-5 working days, depending on confirmation from Orcon, allowing Telecom to "take" their account - latest would be Saturday.

Wednesday night - broadband dropped off - stayed off.

Called Telecom - about a 15-20minute chat with operator to get IP settings and router sorted and my Adventurer package was all good.

2 working days to transition account, but only downtime was time taken while new router settings getting sorted.

Has been sweet to date.

haha,, ive been on telecom since june.. and ive been following posts ever since from lots and lots of unhappy orcon users, orcon's been really bad since march, i just gave up waiting and trying, quit in june and... telecom has been awesome since!! Ive been with telecom for months now, and I love being able to use the net "the way the internet should be".. ""fast"" you guys should just ditch orcon and join a decent isp, Telecom is really good guys, and from a lot of posts where people have changed, telecom seem to be the obvious choice... especially with tivo comming out next month... dont put up with orcon's poor performance, its obvious they dont care about you guys, the end uses who are paying them.

Well this is weird now. It connects and starts downloading at anywhere up to 200K. Then slowly stops before doing it again.

You can count on nothing being better tonight, because tonight there are more customers and more shaping and rapidshare and alike will suffer.
