@coffeebaron: Seems like a few people have seen 1mbps up for a while after being switched to VDSL, then a day or so later found they're getting closer to 10... something about the profile change not going through until chorus actually mark the job as complete?  I'm guessing you have connections and have followed that up though? :)   or maybe you'll see something similar? But wow that's nasty attenuation for VDSL.

(What modem is that BTW?)

coffeebaron: Yup, pretty much same as my ADSL2+ stats

Surely the upstream should be better than that? I would have thought it would never have been worse than about half the downstream (subject to to the 10 Mbps obviously).

coffeebaron: Bummer, 1.1km. I had hoped for a bit more upstream though. Prequel estimated 16Mbps down and 6Mbps up, which is within the speed guidelines for VDSL. Attenuation showing very high, was originally about 10dB back in DSL1 days, but has crept up over the last year :(

Yeah I agree with sidefx, seen a few like this now. Give it time and it will settle down, otherwise get someone from the ISP to check exactly what profile you're on and get the port refreshed.

I had a 6mbps upstream on a 60mbps downstream, poor house wiring to blame. I'm sure coffeebaron knows someone who can fix his wiring though

I was kinda discounting his wiring as a problem Wink

Ahh i thought you lived quite close :p (As i attended your fault on Saturday )

Actually you are further than you think . Seems your cable is in multiple down State highway one ( Towards Bridge Street ) So distance is more like 1.4 Km+

Still would of thought your upload would be more

Uhm, to be frank. with those line stats, I'm REALLY surprised they even let you onto VDSL....

Have seen a few issues of speed "capped" at 1Mbps, but I think that is just the throughput speed, yet the modem will still sync with an up to 10Mbps upstream? I could be wrong though, so will get this checked.

(What modem is that BTW?)

I can not say, but here's a clue:

Ah, that would explain it. Still agree upstream could be a bit more, but yea at that distance I'm not sure what else could be done to remedy this - as it's certainly outside of the recommended spec.
Could there still be a profile load issue causing the lower upstream sync?

Nice. Can you get a sepctrum\bitloading graph off that modem? :) Would be interesting to see at that attenuation\distance.

Had huge amounts of rain here in CHCH yesterday and last night and it seems to have affected my line :(
A whole heap of resyncs and I lost a few mbps on sync speeds.

looks like that woulda thrown you back a few profiles.. just another shot of what the weather can do to vdsl unfortunately :/

Hi all,
just got my vdsl2 connected today. I'm a little confused with my line. It seems that with the installation of the vdsl2 connection my attenuation has risen significantly. I have very little understanding exactly why this is but I believe it may be affecting my chances of being on a slightly higher sync speed.

Here is what I have noticed after the vdsl2 installation:

ADSL2 latency: 10-16ms /VDS2 latency: 26ms (using speedtest.net)
Line auttenuation up/down ADSL2: 0 2.5 / VDSL2 : 10.6 4.9

lastly, it seems the modem is reporting 429 million dbm (I don't even know if this is possible).

Can anyone please help in letting me know what all these changes. Thanks

EDIT: Some other helpful notes are as follows:
-The technician installed a splitter today for the vdsl2 services.
-I live less than 50m from the local cabinet.

This is a caption from before the VDSL2 installtion:

I'd say that the 4 billion is a mis-reporting of some other, more reasonable, figure.

Your line attenuation is puzzling however, I would have expected no more than 3-4db given your distance from the cabinet. Wait until after your initial 10 day DLM validation phase and see how things are looking then. We have seen some odd figures during the validation period but these tend to sort themselves out after a short while.

@SamF: Thanks for the early reply. Do you have any idea why 'up' attenuation has suddenly shot up? Thanks

With attenuation as low as you had I'm surprised you had such low sync speeds on ADSL.

Attenuation between ADSL and VDSL differ due to the frequencies used.
