JasonParis: Good call. I'd recommend that anyone who has a Note 7 takes it back to who they purchased it from. Although there is only a very small chance that you will have a battery failure - don't risk it.

Could not agree more.  It really sucks having to give up a new toy but better than having it creating insurance issues if something does happen.

I would not be surprised if insurance did not pay out (if something happen) as there is a recall on the product.

Samsung seems to have issues with devices catching fire, first it was washing machines (I had one) now it's phones.

Will they actually give it to you, given that there's a supply halt in force?

JasonParis:

After our initial communications went out Samsung then let us know that they would give all Note 7 customers a new J5 to keep while they waited for their new Note 7. We only got that news out to our stores at 12.30pm today so there was a bit of confusion in the couple of hours in between - apologies for that!

Jason

so the J5 is just a loaner, to be returned at the same time the replacement N7 is issued?

Yea im happy il have something until the swap. I even got the rugged armor case today. Iv read about a lot of cases appear to be not so tight fitting around the sides. Likely because the curved rims make it hard for a nice fit.

The fusion case from ringke seems to be the most popular and highest rated on amazon. Might get that if the rugged armor doesnt satisfy.

Some news to share after speaking with Samsung(call centre and Albany service plaza)...

I asked them about the loan device and they said they ran out of stock of those... The person I was talking to also advised that the j5 was not to keep?

They called me today saying that they have my replacement note 7 ready for pick up.

I have double checked that this is the new version with no battery issues.

How did you double check, this seems bizarre. Seems too soon.

Where you say you double checked re battery issues, how did you do that? Did you just check with them on the phone or some other way eg online?

Haha the mofo canceled my replacement mid flight ^.^

"Hi Daniel,

Just have received an announcement from our headoffice that we cannot release the Note 7s which we received this week. (due to recall issue)

One of our staff from customer care will call you to re-arrange and discuss further and I had to cancel the shipment for below exchange unit.

I am really sorry for this, but did not have any other options.."

That's a little tough but I can understand their position somewhat given the potential liabilities.
