I am very torn as to what I am going to do next. I have been using a spigen magnetic air vent holder with my S6, and Note5 and Note7, but I note it's not recommended and makes a point of saying it will impede wireless charging, which it seems to, which is annoying given I just bought *3* wireless chargers!

I really LOVE how the Air Vent Magnetic Holder works, it's just so easy and quick, and reliable, but wireless charging is also useful. I noted that the Note7 got very hot whilst on the wireless charger and I am unsure if that's because of the plate that I have attached to the back of the phone itself.

I really like the look of that Spigen air vent holder. Did you buy it in NZ or through Amazon-type seller? Only about US$7 on Amazon but doesn't ship to NZ.

If I got one I would probably also buy another case, as cheap as possible, to use with the Spigen - i.e. to fix the metal plate to - and quickly swap cases when I'm going in the car for any length of time and want to use the phone for GPS. We travel overseas a lot and use phone for nav. ('Here Maps' ftw!).

Using a second case would reduce the high convenience factor of the Spigen but would get round any wireless charging or heating issues related to the metal plate.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

it doesnt say what country he bought the phone in. just says he was visting Perth from overseas. Poorly written article really.

It's really awesome. Iottie do a similar once, and I bought a generic one from TM which is to all intents and purposes identical for $12. I bought the Spigen and Iottie from Amazon and had a friend bring them back. They are awesome. I attached the metal plate right to the phone, for convenience.

I couldn't be bothered having a separate case despite in our household having dropped 4 flagship phones in 4 months, twice within a week of a brand new replacement. I've owned well over 50 flagships since I started my smartphone career with the Samsung Pixon and these are the first serious bits of damage and twice were freak accidents.

All the cases that call themselves "thin" aren't really "thin" by my standards.

And the 2Degrees guy was trying to convince me to hold onto mine coz there hasnt been any issues in the Australia/NZ region

Feeling better that I didnt take that option

So the big guys NL, spark, Voda and so on will all def get the product changed and swapped with new inventory no doubt, so that they comply etc.

But what about these smaller players , the parallel imported - will they be doing the same?

will they also take all these efforts to get this changed with new units ?

As a consumer how does one know ?

Say if i wanted to wait till xmas and get it parallel imported, how do i know its not the old stock , but its actually the new stock with battery replaced.

Thats one of main things going thru my head right now, and also for everyone else who is planning to buy note 7 in future.

any thoughts ? :)

Well, I know it's obvious but if you want some assurance around these questions, you pay the extra and buy from a reputable source who buys from a reputable source (That buys in such quantities that Samsung prioritizes them in resolutions).

At the end of the day, it's for each consumer to decide what the break point is price-wise to getting that assurance.

I can imagine some smaller players would find this incredibly difficult because it will take them longer to get resolutions through Samsung potentially, but the customers have had the benchmark loudly and proudly set, but NL, Spark, VF etc, and they will reasonably expect pretty much the same from

the smaller providers.

Good question. I dont think they would push back the stock that they currently have. Or if their overseas based suppliers would do that as well.

I have had issues with parallel import in the past with overheating battery of S4 and they didnt take it back and told me to uninstall apps that I installed which is causing the battery heating issue. And S4 battery overheating and swelling was a well known issue where samsung was replacing the batteries for all affected phones.

The parallel import guys lack in accountability - the main reason I havent bought a parallel import phone in the last few years. Best to stay clear of them for better customer service with the big guys - I know it would cost a little more - but thats what we pay for - the better service

I imagine the new models will have a different revision number. You won't be able to flog off a rev1 with a possible dodgy battery as a rev2 unless its to someone very unsuspecting. Another reason to accept the recall offer, resale value.

Ultimately it is up to the retailer to organise it with samsung. Small time parallel importers might not even attempt so you might be out of luck. You could maybe try contact samsung nz direct but thats a shot in the dark.

If I wasn't travelling overseas, if the phone wasn't rebooting 5 times a day, and if I didn't have a Note5 still sitting here, I think I would have assumed the risk and kept the Note7 till the replacements were available.

I am comfortable that the risk is exceptionally low, and I was prepared to turn off fast charging and ensure my charging was done with supervision. I know that wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but that's how I see it.

Thankfully I don't have to worry about it now.

Stupid advice from 2D - irresponsible and reckless. Shot be shot. Wonder what he thinks now if he has heard to the Perth incident?

PS: I wonder if the guy in Perth woke up and thought "Holy Sh*t - there's that smell of burning skittles - and we're not even near a bowling alley!'.

On the face of it, I lean towards agreement but rumours be rumours and until the announcement, there can be no actual comparison.

Being Gen X I firmly straddle the pre-internet, pre-mobile era and the current one. Therefore, writing with a pen is far more natural to me than it probably is to a 20 year old using a device. It's part of the reason I ditched my Apple laptop for a Surface Pro.

To be honest, although Windows 10 isn't too bad, it's still much worse than OSX from a UI (partly because it has a nice, Apple like overlay and as soon as you try and delve, it reverts to looking like Windows from 1999! File Explorer vs Finder is a good example) and I have found some frustrations specific to my needs. EG (and unlikely to concern most others) I create image slideshows using a Mac program called Fotomagico on my iMac. They have a great standalone player you can output to making sharing easy...which won't work on a Windows machine. You can put it out in various movie formats (at worse image quality) but even some of them no longer work without third party apps on Windows because Quicktime is no longer available for Windows.

I harbour vague and unspecified concerns that switching to Android might raise similar conflicts between my Mac desktop and my phone, which obviously iPhones do not have.

However, as I said, I do prefer (on the face of it and based on rumour only as far as iPhone 7 goes) the Note as a device.
