I've been using a Vodafone 845 for a week or two now, evaluating it as an alternative platform to Windows Mobile/CE. I find it a good phone, having used Android 1.5 on a Sciphone N19 and 1.6 on an Eken M001.

Anyway, now that I've received my tracking number for my own personal Vodafone 845, I thought I'd mention (if people haven't already seen) that the Warehouse have a special introductory pricing for the Vodafone 845 for $199 (half price).

They are sold out online, but you may be able to pickup one instore.

The resistive screen is a big downside to this one IMHO. Typing with fingers on a resistive screen is no fun.

Cant say ive ever had a problem typing on a resistive screen.. All 3 of my touch screen phones have been/are resistive, you get the odd wrong letter but i put that down to fat finger/typing to fast

Do yourself a favour and don't pick up a phone with a capacitive screen then. The difference is night and day :)

The other problems are the screen in only QVGA and it doesn't have much RAM - specs are all round lower than a first generation device like the G1 or Magic

It is very cheap though. Turns out there are customs roms although there's no dedicated section on XDA.

For non typing on the screen I would go resistive over the iphone oversensitve screen everytime, but for typing the capacitive wins out. Its a shame they are so sensitive that just brusing past them is enough to trigger them sometimes.

Any places have in instore operating one to use? Not that an empty display phone is really a good indicator of UI speed once the phone actually has some content on it.

Capacitive screens are feather-touch sensitive. Resistive tend to be easier to use with a stylus.

The Eken M001 is resistive and a pair of cut off knitting needles enhance two-handed typing enormously.

Plus if you chuck in some steel wool you can whack out a volkswagon while you text.

Tested Mr Edition Rom and it's Spinoff. Wifi did not work on those ones.

Just a question though. Are Vodafone Prepaid phones locked to the network. I got a prepaid phone 3 years ago and it was not locked. Just wondering if they changed their policy

Vodafone NZ don't lock handsets.
