The Register reports that British ICSTIS (Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of Telephone Information Services) slapped a fine in a spammer sending ads via SMS.

Saturday marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of wireless communication: On Jan. 18, 1903, Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi stood on a sandy bluff at Cape Cod and sent a greeting from President Theodore Roosevelt to England's King Edward VII. The king responded a few hours later, and the age of wireless had begun.
