The recall problem here is driver education.

If we all grew up riding bikes and then perhaps motobikes (as folk in europe do) we would all be better motorists when it came to car driving time. It would mean we would understand what a bike can do, what a motobike can do, and what a box vehicle can do. Having an understanding of the abilities of other vehicle operators and knowledge of other vehicle capabilities means you can allow for them in your own drive space.

I don't believe the kiwi driver education system provides for this level of other road user awareness. And that ors the real problem.

There are, like me. But I fully agree with you. Madness, like running up between lanes when traffic is stopped. Gap isn't that big, factor in cars wing mirrors, bike wing mirrors, madness. One clip, front wheel rotates, down. I've seen them passing at speed, 120kph between cars, with a small gap. Madness.

This is getting off topic but as I said you can't do 20-55kph on a cycle lane and the majority either use the cycle lane or the road. Legally you can use either so if people don't like the law then get the law changed.

I also get sick of hearing the " arrogance" label, it isn't any more so than those that presume the road is for  their personal use and anyone that slows them down or challenges their realm is a fair target for verbal abuse or being forced off the road. 

I've said it many times don't stereotype cyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians & motorists as we aren't a culture or tribe and most use many forms of commuting. Its just the few in all types that give the majority a bad name and also the ones we tend to remember.

I think we can all give our version of incidences that have happened but see no reason to justify my reasoning.


I think they have it all figured out in the states. 
Cyclists get tickets for not riding in the cycle lanes. We should do the same thing here ....

we would need to change the law first as it isn't illegal to not cycle in them, besides cities would need to ensure there were cycle lanes provided at the moment they are few and far between.

Maybe they have it sorted in Europe where motorists are automatically in the wrong if an accident with a cyclists occurs.

I don't remember anything about motorists being auto-blamed if a cyclist is in an accident with them ... where'd you get that info ?

it isn't all my bad I should have clarified

I just spent a week in Melbourne and was surprised how much better behaved the bikes I saw over there were. It's astonishing. To boot an Ex GF's brother was killed on a Motorcycle last week. Sad. Had a young daughter and everything.
