Hi

I found this one that describes the process the smart-tv link also covers the region codes for each country but does say for Webos v1,2,3. Albeit the post is old hence my original question as no mention of v4 and v4.5.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/web-os/general/webos-lg-smart-tvs-to-switch-region-t3794511

https://smart-tv-control.ru/en/lg-smarttv-change-region/

If you can get this to work I would love to know otherwise I may pick up a samsung in the holiday sales but I would really love an OLED!

Thanks

Right, remembered to look at this this morning before I left for work - ended up going through the process again of switching to the UK and back to ensure I had the right info.

So, my version of Web OS is 04.10.45, and can confirm the following worked on my TV - this is not guarantee it'll work on other TVs (including OLEDs), and of course use this any of this info at your own risk.

Press 'service menu' button on Harmony remote

Enter password 0413 (other possible password mentioned on some sites is 0000)

Select 10 - area option

Note the area that the TV's currently set to, as you'll need it later to return to NZ; mine was 4833

I wanted UK apps, so entered 3122 for Europe in the top line

Select the country for apps - Settings > general > location > LG services country > UK (or whichever one)

At that point I opened the LG store app (whatever it's called) and found/downloaded the apps I wanted (iPlayer etc); I think there's some service agreements to agree to etc, but there's no need to re-programme the channels (despite the messaging).

To return to NZ:

Repeat earlier steps, noting:

NZ/Aus etc region code - 4833 (for my TV anyway)

Settings > general > location > broadcast country - set to New Zealand

Settings > general > location > services country - set to New Zealand

Here are a couple of links to sites

Thanks Jonathon that is very helpful that you got it working on v4.0, one further question when you switch back to NZ do you get the NZ apps showing as well as bbc iplayer etc..  and they all work fine. having TVNZ, lightbox and bbc together would be great, better than samsung where you can only pick one region.

If anybody has a b8, c8, c9 2018/19 OLED or v4.5 of webos on LG led's and can get this to work on their TV I would be grateful if you could post here.

Yep, the UK apps are visible when switched back to NZ, and can be shifted around just like the local apps; iPlayer's working perfectly (well, as well as it ever does using Getflix!). As I mentioned, one of the other ones I installed (I think ITV) isn't working, but I've done nothing to trouble-shoot this (not even to see if it's working ok on the iPad).

I think there could be a problem updating the non-NZ apps, as I'm pretty sure they don't show up in the list of 'installed' apps. As such, I imagine there'll be a need to switch regions once again if they need updating. iPlayer has a history (on the iPad at least) of forcing one to update (old app stops working), so that could be a (relatively minor) inconvenience.

Worked great for me along with a bit of DNS trickery to get iPlayer streaming! All apps remained when changing back to NZ. Both NZ and UK apps installed.

I'm only on webOS 3.8.0 though.

What model is your LG TV, older or newer model I have 2015 model and will have to upgrade mine to get all of this working.

I’m keen to pick up up on this thread (which had been locked) to try and get the iPlayer app running on our 2018 LG C8. Have spent hours googling and the most helpful hit worldwide is this thread.

It appears that you need to access the Service Menu to change the region (can’t do it within the TV’s location settings) - and you can’t do that using the Magic Remote that comes with the TV. Need to use a Harmony remote or similar. The YouTube video posted above by @jonathan is excellent. It demonstrates the process using a Harmony Companion remote.

I’m not averse to buying a low-price Harmony remote just to achieve these settings changes - even though I may end up using it only once - but I won’t do this if I need to buy that particular model which is $200+. Does anyone know whether all Harmony remotes have the same basic functionality e.g. am I likely to be able to achieve all this (i.e. access the Service Menu) using the $60 Logitech Harmony Universal Remote.

Harmony remotes have prices ranging from $60 to $550.

Would be grateful for advice and comments.

Sorry, don't know the answer re whether it works on the entry-level remotes (we've got Harmony Ones, which are fairly old but advanced at the time - worked fine with those), but I'd assume it would.

The other option is to see if you could borrow someone's remote for an hour or two, if they've already got it set up for an LG TV (or just added this to the remote before lending it to you), as there'd be no programming required.

Thanks. I’ve given up this line of thought - bit the bullet a bought an Apple TV. Have downloaded iPlayer and ITV Hub apps and they’re working fine - pretty happy with that.
