Fraktul: MDR might have some more modern equipment but the building is still crappy.
No MDR looks cool (if monolithic) with its big black windowless walls. Airedale St might be the horrible one you are thinking of, its the ugly one up the road. Its also my view from my back door :(
Perhaps some of you guys have forgotten that copper wires are still the most efficient technology for lots of networks, especially since most buildings dont have an existing fibre link outside the CBD, or the building's bodycorp cant agree on letting equipment be installed by some ISP etc.
I couldnt see any telecom Alcatel DSLAMs there, i forgot what their grey cabinets look like but I think they have ventilated doors. Essentially the same as the Orcon DSLAM inside and a bit dated already. Notice the short cables linking the filter cards to the voice cards and ADSL cards... The Huawei installed by ihug is the bulkiest on the market, but they werent designed for small providers who have to rent 2 colocation bays to fit a single cabinet. Actually they dont have to rent the space, I wonder if its more economic to install a cabinet outside the exchange?
