Read the above posts with interest cause I also live in Manukau and am experiencing a similar problem. I am using a 91 element UHF aerial (pointing towards waiatarua) and an old 2nd hand Draco hdtv 6300 I inherited from a friend. most channels are fine except maori tv and prime (although noticed lately sometimes TV3 affected, but not as bad). get same intermittent blankouts or freezing quite regularly. Signal strength approx 80-82%, signal quality above 90%. tried replacing connectors, cabling, repositioning aerial etc. Can't seem to improve signal much more. Does anyone think it could be the 6300? have read they are a fairly decent reciever.
Yeah possibly the box, had your friend experienced problems with it where he was when he used it? and what was the state of his connections?

The updated firmware is a bit buggy with the PVR features and requires restarting the box every now and then, but fully understandable considering it's not a true PVR. And I am still very impressed with its PVR nonetheless.
Thanks so far for your help. My friend says he had no trouble using the 6300, but he lives in Oratia (right under the waiatarua tower). He switched over to SKY awhile back and hadn't used the 6300 for a 6-8mths. I noticed the 6300 runs fairly hot. I think I need to borrow another box and see if there is difference.

I bought one of these today. It seems to be a great unit. I've installed the firmware update and an external HDD. Although Timeshift is set to ON I can't seem to use this function. Any ideas? Also it keeps saying HDD not ready, I've unplugged it a few times. Will try another external drive
I went and brought a TEAC HD-B6T from JB Hifi yesterday. (was on special for $196). Connected it up last night and it's brillant. I channel surfed for about an hour and no blackouts or freezing so far. reception of maori TV and prime very good. Should have got a new box from scratch. will attempt firmware upgrade when i have the time.

Make sure you do that firmare update. With an external HDD for the PVR function, this STB is very good value for money. Just a tip the external HDD must be FAT32 formatted. You can use swissknife to do this

You need to format the hard drive using the pvr menu, it has to prepare the drive for timeshift. to use (when hdd is ready) press pause on remote and then rewind if you need to.
Bloody great box for the price, beats the china clones for similar cost...
