Hopefully someone can help me, I've spent ages on this.

So I have a Sony Ericsson K500i phone. It didn't come with a USB cable or software suite. It does have infrared.

Suggestions online were to get a compatible USB cable which I managed to source and had shipped from Hong Kong.
Plugging the USB cable in does nothing. The cable is installed and detected but it cannot detect the phone.
I gave up on that working.

I have an infrared receiver dongle from a remote control that came with my tv capture card.
I thought if I could somehow get that working to receive files using the phone's infrared, but my searches for some kind of software to make this work have turned up nothing.

Any suggestions? I'm out of ideas!

Is there Sony Ericcson software you're meant to install? Is there any way to upload it using a network connection to somewhere, wifi or packet data? I couldn't get data off my wife's old phone either, a Nokia, even with the cable and correct software.

I have a USB IR thingy from dse that helped once.

Nah no software available for it.
No wifi as the phone is way too old.
Only option if nothing else works is to use mobile data to xfer files,
but it's a big sized sim and my current is a micro SIM.

What are you trying to transfer? Contacts, photos, music, etc.

Easy way, take it to your mobile providers store and ask them if they can help. They're usually pretty good.

Yup that would do the job just perfect... if my phone had bluetooth.

I doubt you can use the IR receiver from the remote to transfer files, you'd need something with a proper IrDA port. Maybe you can find an old laptop with one.

If you can just use mobile data, that'd be the way to go. From gsmarena it seems the internal memory of the phone is only 12MB so it wouldn't use much and it's not hard to get a microsim adapter. Or just go into a shop and see if they can do it.

The only difference between a standard SIM and a micro SIM is the size of the plastic around the chip. If you can store the data on the SIM and then cut the SIM down to micro size, that can work. Google for instructions. Better be sure you can get everything off first, it won't go back to full size again! :)

I don't think that's what he meant. You can't transfer photos/videos to a SIM card, that I'm aware of. He has a micro SIM in his new phone with a data plan and was thinking of putting it back into his old phone to upload the data.

There seems to be drivers for a DCU-11 transfer cable available on line. Says compatible with your phone but drivers are for XP.

It's fine to put a micro sim into a normal sized sim slot, just make sure the pins are aligned with the correct part of the sim card. I've been using that for the past month in SonyEricsson W800 phone with no issues. Then you can try and email pictures etc.

It is also likely that the pictures and videos are all saved on to the Sony memory stick card, not the phone memory itself. In which case you can get a memory stick to SD card converter.
