I am a very frequent flyer overseas, flying to LA at least three times a month. If I was able to get an unlocked I-Phone would it have any restristions. I know of people that are using unlocked I-Phones in Australia and having no problems, would the ame be here?

If you buy an iPhone now chances are its firmware will be 1.1.1, which currently have no free unlock solution. But people who have iPhone with firmware version earlier than 1.1.1 have successfully unlocked their iPhone in NZ. Only feature that will be unavailable is the visual voice mail, which is only available with AT&T. Remember even if you get a iPhone unlocked Apple can turn the iPhone into a expensive Touch if you update accidentally in the future.

expensive roaming or expensive casual mobile data would be your only problem.

There is a free software unlock available for 1.1.1 in the wild since yesterday. It's beta, and it's still based on a flawed patching method, which resulted in the bricking of phones with the latest software update.

I'd hold off the anySIM unlock until it's no longer using a sledge hammer to crack the nut.

Activating 1.1.1 is still a time consuming chore.

1.1.1 is unlocked and working in NZ, in fact it was one of the first outside the dev team done on Thursday morning ;-).
