I have a Nokia 3200 and I'm trying to use Vodafone live.

I can get to the first level of menus, but trying to access a section beyond that returns the error:

"!- Ooops. We couldn't recognise your mobile number so we can't give you full access to this site. If you are a Vodafone NZ customer, please try again soon. Vodafone NZ & TelstraClear NZ customers can use Vodafone Messaging Services. To join the fun, give us a call on 0800 800 021 or check out www.vodafone.co.nz"

Has anyone else come across this before?

I thought I'd check here before calling Vodafone in case it was something simple. I have double checked all my connection settings on the Vodafone site.

It's probably something either with the account or the configuration on their side. Better call their help desk.

If you are hitting the vodalive site then there is no way its the handset set-up

i have the same problem with my nokia 3120, getting this darn error so I can't access the vodaphone live site

it's probably some thing to do with the mechanisms vodafone use to identity either your mobile number or your phone model...
ring 777 and see let us know if they fix it...

I dont think so.

Call Vodafone and lodge a support call - there is a reason why you get this message.

As in the one of the posts the system checks for the phone software, acc balance etc etc and the system has not let you in.

It will be a simple case of your mobile number not being fully enabled.

PS there nothing wrong with the 3200

What I meant was you need a vodafone live approved phone before you can access the site. In effect they are simply being cheap making you buy a phone in excess of $275 before you can do anything cool. The Nokia 3120 is not an approved phone even though it probably could surf more of the site than it's allowed.

Hi,

I dont want to start a discussion here and there is hundreds of posts on this site on this subject and Im not waving any flag here, but you get tired of phone - network bashing Telecom and Vodafone.

Basically did you not know Telecom or Vodafone dont make Ringtones, Dont make Games, dont do any content at all and dont make phones.

Not all phones support the content on offer imagine if you where allowed to download content that was not supported by your phone hmmm apart from being out of pocket it is a poor experance and better to block un supported handsets.

Vodafone Live and with Telecom you dont see all the 025, CDMA or T3 phones having access to all content and downloads. Some phones work some have better browsers etc.

If you look at V Live they have prob 10's of content providers that make all this content same as Telecoms portal. This is Global content made by some big companies out there and perhaps these questions should be steered to the phone maker.

Look go to google and do a search on games, ringtones etc lots of free stuff out there to download to your mobile. Your phone is not resticted or blocked you can surf anywhere that your phone browser supports and get content.

I download lots of stuff from other sites like mp3's etc free of cost except data charges.

The Internet is huge and your phone is a gateway go and find some other content and enjoy.

We're miffed about it because browsing VF live is being offered free (no data charges) until about the end of march and we don't get a piece of the action. As for getting free ringtones and games, http://wap.marfa.ru/index_e.wml has lots of free stuff (thank the russians), but we're intrested in locan news, events, weather etc. that we can't get anywhere else.

Also check out wordDial.com another thing that is great about wordDial.com it is based in Massey Universities Albany e-Centre, a technology incubator right here in NZ.

The wordDial.com system means a URL / internet address can be spelt by typing each key just once spelling with numbers rather than letters.

News.com for example, becomes 6397.com, while 9328437.com spells weather.com.

I use 6397.com and I can check the Herald site on my handsets WAP browser. No need to sign up for a news service I only pay for the GPRS data charges.

But you can still access the Vodafone WAP portal for free if your phone is not Vodafone Live! capable. You will just get a basic WAP site with limited images but with exactly the same content, you can still access news and plenty of other things on their site which is being offered free. As others have said there is plenty of other WAP content, looking at the worddial site might give you some ideas, just remember you're paying WAP data charges once you leave the vodafone.com domain realm (well you might be - Vodafone's GPRS billing is so screwed you stand a chance of being billed even if you don't use the service!)

Just to clarify things, accessing the Vodafone Live! wap site is free for ever - ie you don't pay WAP data charges to view the site. This has been the case since late last year and you now only pay for the services used (many of which are free until March). Vodafones previous method of charging for accessing the Live! portal was the biggest con in the country, not only did you have to pay $5 or whatever to download a game you also had to pay the associated GPRS data charges which could add another 50c to the cost if you weren't on a GPRS plan. This was potentially in breach of the fair trading and numerous complaints were laid by people who felt this was unfair.

The good people at Vodafone (pinch of salt there) say that you need a live phone to access the site. Un approved phones get squat diddly all but the main menu. I think thats how they get around having the site free then, they just add it to the cost of the phone. Also what's this talk about 'technology incubator'. We're talking about Massey! The crap Uni! This number address thing is just like predictive text many people use on their phones anyway, even google has a number search function which massey has clearly gotten the idea from. And wouldn't you have to type their address in normally to get to this wordial place anyway? What a waste of time.

The Worddial doesn't require you to go to their site. The idea is just that you can use numbers as domain names, licensed from this company. For example shop.com can be easily entered on a mobile phone as 7467.com.

I think they went and bought lots of domains with numbers in their names, and they're now selling the space for some companies to use for limited time - one year or so.

I still have to see if this will be used - I'm pretty sure users have no idea this thing exists.

You're always going to have to pay for this content, or figure out how to provide it yourself.

The reason is copyright. The Herald have closed their free WAP service, I guess because they have released they can get money selling their content to people like Vodafone (and other providers too)

If you have enough technical knowledge you can "screen scrap" the NZ Herald site (and others), grab their content, format it for WAP and serve it off another website somewhere. This is very handy ;) The problem is you can't make it public because really it's not your content to be giving out.

There is of course google's free Web to WML (Wap language) you're able to use, but it's slow and clunky and providers can easily ban it.

As for worddial, it was heavily promoted at Big Boys Toys. I thought it would be pretty cool, so I went back to the "current events" site the next weekend. It still said "This weekend is Big Boys Toys", so I pretty much gave up on it then as a stale boring content provider. Novel idea but I don't think it's going to take off, 95% of users don't even realise "Vodafone Live!" is just one WAP site of hundreds of thousands... And that's exactly how Vodafone like it :)

I try and educate as many people as possible that they don't have to pay for $3 for ringtones/images etc, but convience is a great thing for most (and not everyone has a datacable for their phone, or software to use the datacable)

Last thing, Vodafone's website actually looks at the phone type your phone reports... I can change (with hardware and software I have) the phone type my phones reports itself to be. I can change it to say it's a T630 and suddenly Vodafone Live! won't work "properly" anymore. If I change it back to T610 it works fine. I have changed people's T630's to think they're a T610. Still works perfectly AND they can use Vodafone Live...
So, while no doubt some of Vodafone Live! can't be accessed by all phones, it will work with many of them apart from the fact Vodafone don't put them in their allowed list.
