Our local video store closed, a really sad day as they were still useful for the current games, and video releases I missed on Cinema release? I missed the last xmen and was waiting for it on Blu-ray but now I can't just pop down and get it on BR.

Need something legal, and convenient and hopefully not stupidly expensive.

How many of those work in NZ without geo circumnavigation?

Amazon Video doesn't (and getting movies isn't possible currently even if your account is set to US).

A number of New World and Countdown stores (around Auckland at least) have the Flixbox dvd rentals. Not sure if they do Blu Ray as well.

Yup they do, exceptionally limited offerings.

We use them from time to time.

Is there a reason you require a physical location to collect them, rather than online streaming services? Because those are legal, convenient, and not stupidly expensive (usually).

Quality is the main one. 4k netflix still looks more artifacty to me than a decent 1080 bluray rip does. Plus the hopeless adaptive crap will randomly drop down to low res during movies and take ages to get to full quality when you start or resume watching.

microsoft/xbox, itunes, google play, playstation network?

if you want to watch a movie, streaming is the way to go, cheapest option is chromecast + google play + android device. movies all are around $7 HD rentals. sure old movies are more expensive to rent than your ex local video shop, but thats why you use netflix (yes netflix doesnt have every movie, but neither did your local video store).

for movies i really want, i tend to buy second hand blurays or during a bluray sale (that happens a lot, warehouse do cheap BRs a lot), but most of the time I just digitally rent em or netflix them.

Microsoft, iTunes, Google Play work in New Zealand for movies. The list contains tons of other content types and providers.

I had assumed the OP was just having a laugh so didnt take the post seriously.

At 11.5 thousand posts on GZ I assumed he would be well aware of the options.

If he needs physical media because he has a poor internet connection that is not up to streaming - then my apologies....

I am aware of SOME of the options, not ALL of the options since I don't tend to stream movies, I have preferred physical media because whilst I have a good working internet connection, I have found quality to be worse in most cases, and definitely sound. Even with a good internet connection I still get the odd buffering etc. Last time I looked into this was a good couple of years ago, and Google Play Movies had about 2 movies I wanted to see, and NONE of the new releases. Compare that to google play USA which has hundreds, but requires mucking around. Google play doesn't have all, then you have to go to Apple for some, and on and on. My wife isn't going to cope with the mucking around, and honestly, these days I am busy enough I don't really want to either.

If I rent a BR, it works.
