I recently bought a Kindle with 3G + WiFi. The user must register as being from a specific country. When you register as "New Zealand" your 3G connectivity is limited to Wikipedia and Amazon. If you register in Australia your 3G web connectivity is not limited -- you can get Google, hotmail, and any other website you want. I have tested this by registering alternately in different countries. Has anyone else discovered this? How did it come about?
Amazon always made it clear the 3G service (for anything but Kindle purchase, books downloads) is only available to US customers. Also the browser in itself is in the "experimental" category.
