I upgraded from a cheap Pantech 115 to a slightly less cheap Pantech 215. I am pretty sure I charged the new phone with the old charger. Result - battery discharges in a few hours. Even a big fat extended life battery only lasts 10 or 12 hours. Cellie gets warm, which is a clue to where the battery charge goes - behaves more like a heater than a mobile phone. Still works, but this is not a practical outcome. Can anyone say (without telling me I should have read the manual, and without me wondering why a manufacturer would create such an obvious trap for their loyal, slightly brainless, upgrading customers), is this fixable cheaper than getting a new phone?

Clearly its faulty if its discharging so quickly, I would send it back since they need not know about your charger incident and just let them sort it.

Is the same car charger specified for the 2 model of phones? If so then they are likly the same wall charger too, otherwise just be more careful in future.

The two chargers have the same plug, but while the new charger in actual use is backwards compatible to charge the old mobile, the old charger is destructive to the new phone. There is a warning in the manual - but I wish they had used a new plug to make the mixup impossible. This damage is not covered by warranty since it is a case of a reckless user. I hate to throw away a practically new phone. Recycle, and all that. My question - does anyone out there know who/how to repair this damage for less than the cost of a replacemen?

I would try getting them to fix it without telling them what you did, even with them knowing, I think its clear that there is a problem with it not being communicated well. There should have being a sticker on the phone or something similar to warn you of this issue, since most people will be accustomed to nokias where its an anything goes for the charger type situation.

I'd take it back. The old 115 chargers are much nicer, and SMALLER! now the new 215c and 1000c phone come with this massive brick of a charger..

I have charged these phones with either chargers for ages without problems. The Sanyo charges the Pantech and the LG, and the pantech charges the sanyo and lg quite happily.. they use a common standard nowdays so chargers are interconnectable.

I currently charge all my phones off one Nokia ACP-12A charger with two CA-XX adaptors.
The headset cable charges the Sanyos, Pantech's and LG
The smaller adaptor charges the newer nokia's with the smaller plugs.

It's pretty much a common 4.5v 200mA-800mA standard now.

No I do not use all those phones all the time but hault them away to marginal coverage zones for testing etc.
