Can anyone tell me if the TCNZ CDMA network allows its users to access email other than Xtra on one of their standard mobiles i.e. not a PDA or with a data card. I can achieve this with my Vodafone mobile but can't find any info on Telecom's site about this.

I am sure it works with PDAs and data cards. It will work with handsets too if you use those as modems, but on the handset itself will of course depend on each model.

Telecom does not block access to POP3 or SMTP servers in other networks in any way.

Thanks for that,  I'm more interested in settings than capability. Would I need a data connection or are all 027 phones data capable straight away (like VF's WAP)? What would I set the SMTP server to as my ISP doesn't allow relaying?

any data you do directly from your phone will be quite expensive.

You need to find an smtp server to use - I use my own authenticating one. smtp.xtra.co.nz should work.

You will need a mail client. Possible to find a java one for some phones, but not always straightforward to get on to a Telecom phone, and they will not all be capable of doing it.

m.gmail.com works great from any WAP browser. Its the easiest way of getting email on a normal Telecom phone.
