i have just started getting a very unstable connection over the last 24-36 hours.

have rebooted modem, had ports reset by spark, and have been told i have a stable line but my latency in games is reaching anywhere upto 8000, getting kicked from games constantly and rubberbanding.

also have experienced internet dropouts, although there is no logs to point to it, as my DSL line stays connected the whole time. have been suggested a new modem (which is on its way during the week)

speedtests result in speeds from 2-5mb download, although have had around a good 12-13 when SNR margin was sitting at 6dB since i was connected.

@hio77, maybe you could help or have a look into it for me?

Internet stats from Huawei HG659B below:

DSL synchronization status: Up

Connection status: Showtime

Upstream line rate (kbit/s): 1061

Downstream line rate (kbit/s): 10741

Maximum upstream rate (kbit/s): 1061

Maximum downstream rate (kbit/s): 11592

Upstream noise safety coefficient (dB): 12.5

Downstream noise safety coefficient (dB): 12

Upstream interleave depth: 0

Downstream interleave depth: 0

Line standard: ADSL_2plus

Upstream line attenuation (dB): 17.3

Downstream line attenuation (dB): 33.5

Upstream output power (dBmV): 12.2

Downstream output power (dBmV): 19.4

Downstream interleave depth: None

DSL up time: 0 days 2 hours 38 minutes 57 seconds

Stable DSL but variable throughput and latency points to link saturation. I'd be looking for something on your network hogging bandwidth, either upstream or downstream.

wifi or ethernet?

Saturation is my bet.

Dm me your line number and I'll kick off a test to look at on Monday

As already pointed out it sounds exactly like upstream saturation, especially if you can't get speedtests anywhere near your sync speed.

it's both Ethernet and wifi. dsl link still active, spark tech support said dsl line is stable. even though I have been experiencing internet connectivity dropping for everyone, which they can not see, it'll drop out for about 5 mins at a time.
I don't know what would be hogging the bandwidth. internet usage / habits haven't changed.
I've noticed over the last few weeks the noise coefficiency on my line has been getting worse for downstream. started at 6db and been around 8db lately and now it's 12db. not sure if that is maybe a part of the issue.

I'm going to do some testing shortly with the likes of disabling wifi etc and see what happens in games, see if it's specifically the line or something on the network, as I've never had issue playing games before til the other day

Noise margin increasing id ddDLM adjusting for noise on the line to increase stability. It might cause a dropout for a couple of minutes once a day as it changes, but usually in the small hours of the morning.

I've been experiencing drop outs all times of day. I'm only home between roughly 9-10am and 12pm-2pm and after 6pm. had been happening at most of those times.

I have just loaded up my game again and it seems to be okay now.not getting ping of upto 8000ms. stressed wifi with 1080p60fps YouTube at same time as partner was most likely watching YouTube at the time and there is no effect.

@hio77 I've just dropped my line number through PM.

I guess I'll just have to wait and find out what's wrong. I'll try see if the modem can provide any logs when I am experiencing drop outs.

A thought - have you tried looking near instead of far? It could well be that your DSL Modem is maintaining it's DSL connection, but is being swamped by something within your LAN - a rogue device or a network loop would certainly cause issues like you're describing.

Have you added, changed or upgraded anything recently? I know TCL Android TVs can spit the dummy and do this, because I've personally had it happen, but it could be all sorts of things. I'd suggest trying to unplug things from the network, testing again, rinse and repeat. Could well make no difference, but it certainly can't hurt.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

yes I've thought of that. there has been very little changes in the last month. got a sky box connected via wireless, and has been fine since getting that. and just got a note 10+ and had been experiencing it mainly yesterday. network wide. have disconnected my note 9 from wifi which I was using before the note 10+ so it wouldn't keep buzzing for the same notification twice plus being on a slower line, don't want to take up too much bandwidth.
currently have pc connected via Ethernet, and TV, sky box, PS4, and 2 phones connected via WiFi. TV wifi is barely used as use PS4 for streaming content instead of built in apps. could probably just remove the wifi from my TV. sky only uses bandwidth when downloading or browsing on demand content I believe, everything else is sent over satellite if I'm correct.
and PS4 is barely used at all.

Watching multiple YouTube videos is only using downstream bandwidth, it's not going to saturate the upstream.

yeah I'm aware of that haha. more or less just trying to replicate what me and my partner do at any given time. she's usually on YouTube or Facebook while I'm gaming. never had an issue til last night (at least ping/latency wise) and just some irregular dropouts. seems to have been fine this morning while I was at home

I wouldn't be so sure on that.

Having personally had a terrible ADSL connection prior to UFB it wasn't at all difficult to saturate upstream with iPhones syncing to iCloud in the background or various other sync / backup services kicking off at any time.

There are far too many ways these days to saturate a sub 1mbit upstream without you knowing about it.

yeah I completely get it. I've been in my current place for just about 3 months and this is the first issue I've really had. both phones being Android and doing cloud backups. still have no clue as to what could be saturating the upstream to cause my whole internet to just stop working for upto 5 minutes

You've misinterpreted what I said - the OP was watching YouTube videos in an attempt to "stress" their connection, but that's not going to replicate saturating the upstream.

There's the clue right there. A phone doing a cloud backup for several minutes will cause the exact symptoms you have with a 1 Mb/s connection.
