Hi i have a nokia 6275i 027 phone and i am finding that it often takes a very long time for 021 phones to recieve my txt's.

I realise that Telecom don't like Vodaphone so i can sort of understand the reason for the delay in sending the txt's but my question is this.

If i change the message settings on my cell from normal priority to urgent priority will this make a difference or will telecom still keep being useless when it comes to txt's

Ok, then if the priority setting makes no difference then what does it do and if it does nothing why did nokia bother to put it in the phones software?

I tried finding out what it does but nokia didnt include that info in the user manual

Its always been my experience that text messages sent from Telecom to Vodafone get delivered in seconds or worse case, minutes.

What length are you talking about? Minutes, hours, days?

one occasion that stands out was a few months back, i sent a txt to a mate who is on 021 asking if he would like to catch a movie, the reply i got back the following afternoon (some 12 hours after the movie the previous night) said something along the lines of sorry cant go tonight, have fun though.

now the wording of the txt led me to believe that he sent the txt the night before and when i asked him about it he said he sent it at 7pm the night before and the movie was due to start about 8 or 9pm, but since the txt came in much later than that i thought it was a telco problem between vodaphone and telecom

Sounds like the reverse of what you said in the OP,

In the OP you said the problem was sending from your 027 to 021,  but your description sounds like the delay was from his 021 to your 027.  (i.e. he sent it at 7pm, but you didn’t get it until the next day)

The only time I have experienced delays with texts is when one the recipient is out of range or has their phone off.  Although the text sends ok,  the person will not receive it straight away. When they get back in range or turn their phone on sometimes there can be a delay between that on and messages coming through.

hey Tarthaliondor, Just read your post and noticed you have a 6275i, have you managed to remove the blue flag icon from the top on the screen? Do you know where to get a replacement housing? Cheers

yes, i probably wasn't specific enough with my OP, I have problems recieving txts in a timely fashion from 021 but im sure 027-021 is also slow, although my mates might just be to lazy to respond quickly.

Anyway im not really too worried about it, if its something urgent i will use a phone call but i dont like being forced to do that too often as it costs money and i would prefer to txt my mates.

With regard to the Priority setting part of my OP, i still dont know what that does, it doesn't make logical sense for nokia to spend money writing software for it if it doesn't do anything as johnr sugested in his post.

In regards to the question about the blue flag and phone case that madman posted:

Im not sure what the blue flag does, im not sure how to get rid of it but as its out of the way at the top of the screen it doesn't bother me.  Im not sure where you would get a new cell cover except from telecom i supose.

sorry i couldn't be more helpfull madman but one important tip i can offer with this phone is dont delete the themes to free up memory as once they are all gone you wont be able to keep your custom ringtone settings if you turn off the phone and then turn it on as the theme seams to be the part of the phone that stores these settings.

I deleted the themes a few months back and found it really annoying each time i turned off my phone, i eventually got used to not having a background pic and having to listen to the beep beep sound thats the default for txt alerts.

After some diging around on the net i found a theme to replace the ones i deleted and used the data cable to put it on my phone and now everythings working great, i even have a really cool stargate atlantis theme which is better than the standard nokia themes now.

Also if you are wanting to use the cell as a camera you may want to get a microSD card, i can now store 3900 High Quality setting 1600x1200 photos on my phone.  The camera isn't perfect but its better than carrying a seperate camera everywhere you go.

I also found the txt setting that allows it to overwrite the oldest txt to make space for new ones when they come in to be quite handy as now i dont get annoying messages telling me to delete txt's to see the new ones.

I haven't tested the printer that came free with the phone yet so i cant coment on that part of the phone package yet.

sorry if i've started getting a bit sidetracked but i tend to ramble a bit in my posts when given the opportunity to do so.

Same thing happens to me. I'm on telecom. About once every 2 to 3 weeks it takes up to seven hours for message to arrive on my telecom phone, pain in the neck as it's someone i'm meeting.

Messages from my telecom phone to their vodafone always seem to go through in under 2 minutes so no problem other way.

When I look at time stamp on message it has time message was sent, for example 3.30pm, but phone which hasn't been switched off starts beeping at 10.30pm with message. Person has confirmed they sent at 3.30pm.

There was one day where every message they sent took over 7 hours, 3 to 4 of them, yet all messages I sent them arrived in timely manner. It's only been one day where it was that bad.

Summary problem: message sent from vodafone phone to 027 takes sometimes 7 hours plus to arrive, with 027 phone switched on. Time stamp on message is correct for when sent.

I haven't rung telecom as I'd expect them to just blame vodafone, plus it being an intermittent fault would make it tricker to track down too.

Hi Madman, The blue flag is to do with the GPS locator. I haven't figured how to turn it off yet. There does not seem to be an option to turn off, that I can find.

For the user there's no evidence this delay on the Telecom or the Vodafone side, so saying that it's slow because Telecom doesn't like Vodafone makes no sense.

It is a business transaction. They deliver the message, they get the money. It's in everyone's interest to have it working well.

In support of Mauricio, the technology used to interconnect the two SMS platforms is not aware of the personal feelings between the respective executive teams. I would recommend that if you are experiencing delayed messages that you contact the senders help desk. Delays recieving messages sent from Vodafone should be directed to Vodafone and delays recieving messages sent from Telecom should be directed to Telecom.

I've heard of this happening many times. The good news is that generally this will happen less than 1 in 30 texts to the opposite network - and yes, it happens in both directions. When one mainframe is busy processing their own needs [texts], outside requests get queued last. There are no plans to "fix" this as it isn't technically an issue. The closest I've come to seeing this blown out is when an emergency text was sent between networks and wasn't received until the following day. Normally it's simply a nuisance.

@JoeBlogs, not sure where you got our stats from. When I look, the success rate is greater than 99.7% (>1/300), not 97% (1/30) as you describe. The majority of these failures are because of invalid numbers.
