I used to be on the old T Stick with Telecom and had this in my Netcomm N3G002W wireless router.

The reception, signal and connection were brilliant. No complaints about speed or any other problems.

Last week I changed to a new Seirra Wireless 885U XT data stick and changed my plan ONLY to get some more bandwidth. BAD MOVE......

I checked the Netcomm website and said this was compatible. I upgraded to the latest firmware for the router.

Went through and just connected the new XT stick as I did my last one.

Thats where everything started to go wrong.

Here are just some of things that have happened:
-wireless router keeps rebooting
-when I do connect to the internet, the speeds are slower than dial up
-it takes ages to get to a web page
-webpage loading times out

I also connected the XT stick directly to my laptop and installed the Tru Install Watcher program. I attached the connection for my external antenna. The signal was full bars as expected.

However when I try and connect, the connection does actually connect, but then just sits there. Plenty of data been sent but none received.

If I disconnect and then reconnect, it will be totally different. I will have a great connection with great speed. After about 5 minutes it just stops and doesnt go anywhere. The connection is still made to Telecom Internet but no more data transfers.

I have done ping tests, flushed DNS, tracert and they are all totally inconsistent.

Most of the tracert tests come back with responses such as 1900ms or more!! Funnily enough it is the first 4 hops which I am assuming is still on Telecoms network 10.64.64.X

Anyway, looking for any similar experiences.

I am thinking it could be antenna issues or even orientation of the antenna. I know the router works and so does the XT data stick (albeit the connections are inconsistent).

I am going in the right direction. Telecom are next to useless in tech support in this area outside of taking the cap of the stick, etc etc

Would appreciate any ideas.

Cheers.....(If Im lucky I might just get back on to check replies!!!! LOL)

Have you tried the Sierra Wireless on a laptop - not through the router? If so, what is the result?

I am asking because seeing the router keeps restarting with this USB modem I would first blame a bad firmware on the router for your troubles. Using the USB modem on a laptop where you can see signal strength would help you pinpoint the problem.

Yes connected now and replying on this. The signal is 4 bars (-73dBm). I have jumped from having the Sierra Wireless 885U in the router to in the laptop just trying to get connections.

However, the same things that happen on the router happen when using the Sierra Wireless 885U on the laptop.

I was thinking antenna issues but then it has great signal and has/is working so hard to pinpoint.

The router doesnt ALWAYS keep restarting. I was starting to think it was the firmware but when I started using the Sierra Wireless 885U in the laptop and the same thing kept happening then that threw me.
