Hi All

Just changed over to Telecom.

I had no problems sending emails through Gmail via their POP / SMPT servers and no settings have changed.
Now I can received them on Xtra but am unable to send them.

Running Entourage on Mac OS X Snow Leopard and on Telecom Big Time ADSL2+

Any ideas?

Thx

Welcime to Geekzone philboy15 Laughing

I am having the same sort of problems as you, philboy15 See: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=50&topicid=43124

I think according to what people have said in my thread, Telecom is blocking port 25, try changing the smtp port to a different one, check Google help to see if they give a different smtp port number, or try using smtp.xtra.co.nz.

Telecom (along with numerous other ISP's these days) block port 25 which is the most commonly used port for SMTP traffic. This is to stop hijacked machines turning into email spambots.

You can read more here

I've never used Gmail for sending SMTP but I assume they probably offer secure SMTP on port 465 or 587 which should resolve the issue.

For google you need to use port 465 and your client needs to support SSL (not TLS)

I never managed to get smtp.xtra.co.nz working.

I can send and receive fine on Xtra.
For pop access pop3.xtra.co.nz port 995 ssl/tls (Thunderbird tries them both but probably ssl)

For SMTP to send from Xtra
send.xtra.co.nz port 465 (Once again thunderbird is ssl/tsl so could be either but probably ssl)
Username is whatever is before the @ so if your e-mail is first.last@xtra.co.nz then your username is first.last

Works fine for me.
