I've been having problems with my broadband speeds for about 2 months now, therefore i called up xtra and was told that it might be the filters getting too old, so i changed them but this did not solve the problem, thus i took them back to dse (where i bought them from) and they happly exchanged them for new ones, thinking that the filters were faulty, but the problem continued, therefore i went to QMB(a computer store in Auckland) and bought filters from there, but no luck and im still stuck with slow broadband, currently im on the 10Gig flatrate plan from Xtra and I'am only receiving about 30-40 kbps as my speed while downloading compared to my previous spped of (what i used to get) 356-512kbps so im not really happy about it. now i was going through my modem's setting (by visiting my ip address ***.***.1.1) and found some stats that i do not understand and i would like to know what they mean specially the ones highlited in bold:

Operation Data
Operation Data Upstream Downstream
Noise Margin24 dB13 dB
Attenuation48 dB38 dB

Defect Indication
Indicator Name Near End Indicator Far End Indicator
Fast Path FEC Correction00
Interleaved Path FEC Correction190461258
Fast Path CRC Error00
Interleaved Path CRC Error20688
Loss of Signal Defect0---
Fast Path HEC Error00
Interleaved Path HEC Error00

"what does 'far end' and 'near end' stand for???"

Another obsticle in my way to faster broadband is that i called up telecom and after a 15min wait and another 1 hour discoussion with the operator they told me to fill out a survey and this survey requires me to change the setting of the modem and store a jetstreamgames ID now i dont really know how to get about this or what to actually do,
here is the part explaing what i need to do from their email:

"At each time period where you run the ‘500k Download Test’ we require you the test once with your Xtra username stored in your modem or router, and once with the user@jetstreamgames.co.nz username stored in your modem or router."

SO if you can help me out some how i would be greatful.
thanx.

Akash

P.S. forgot to mention that my internet was working fine when i got the 3com modem its only slowed down now and as far as i know i haven't really done much fingering with the settings.

and could this have to do with the "UPGRADE" telecom is doing???

Thanx Again

TaGuru: i haven't really done much fingering with the settings.

What did you change?
What model is your new modem?
And is it possible you can repost that/edit your post so we can read it properly, maybe make a few key points at the end of what you believe is wrong and what you want done about it?
Also how do you have it all set up?

Ok, in the 10.1.1.1 menu, are all the settings that would enable you to connect to your ISP the same as they were before your upgrade?
