Your ADSL sync stats are very low. Have you performed basic isolation tests on your connection? Do you have filters installed? Looking at the www.telecomwhole.co.nz/maps page are you served from a cabinet or exchange and what is the distance?

160 upstream is a suspicious number... There have been cases where a 160kbit ATM upstream sync was used for 128kbit upstream plans. Is your plan meant to be Fullspeed/Fullspeed, or do you think there may be a 128k upstream limit?

For plans with limited upstream, depending on how and where the limiting is applied, it could have effects on your latency, especially if usage bursts (for however short a time) above 128kbit upstream.

Cheers - N

i tried to look at that link but it said error.
i did an isolation test yesterday and got the same results, i unplugged everything that was plugged into a phone jack and just plugged the modem in and connected it to my laptop it didn't change.
usually i have a filter so i can plug the phone into the same jack but i tried it with out the filter too and still the same.

whats the belink router for? if its wireless, then ditch it and connect your xbox with a cable.  you'll always get variations in performance over wifi.

Ring Telstraclear's help desk and ask why your upload line rate (160kbit) is so low, definitely looks suspiciously like you are on some super old plan or a mistake has been made in the line profile you're on.

Also while you're talking to them ask to get interleaving turned off.

With such low speeds I'd be wary of just turning interleaving off... It's better to have errors corrected in the ATM layer than the IP layer. Personally I'd leave interleaving on for this line, unless a closer look at the stats shows little/no FEC...

See http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/linestats_errors.htm for a decent explanation of quite a few of the stats.

ps. Yes, I agree asking about the 160 would be a good idea.

There are other things you need to make sure are ok first, before looking specifically at the ping...

It's like worrying about fuel economy in your car if it's stuck in 2nd gear and the handbrake is stuck on. Fix the big issues first and then see what of the primary issue remains.
